    Anyone done a spin class?

Anyone done a spin class? WDYT? What muscles were sore afterwards?

Im going to start dragging my sorry jiggly bum to the gym instead of whining about disliking whats in the mirror and Im thinking of doing a spin class.

I did a lot of spin classes before I got pregnant and absolutely loved it - it's such a good work out! It is great because you can work at your own level because you control the resistance level on the bike. Your legs and but get very sore afterwards, but from memory it was also good for my tummy. Now you got me thinking I want to go back to spin!

I recommend it totally! I'm a huge fan.

I'm an RPM instructor (similar to Spin but RPM is the 'Les Mills' version) and I've just started doing it again after having bubs # 2. And I feel BRILLIANT. Its a great work out and can burn up to 900 calories per session. Targeting the legs, hips, thighs, butt and tummy.
I lost all my pre baby weight with RPM after having my first baby within 2 mths (combined with healthy eating of course) so I'm hoping it'll do the same for me this time around too!

    Good luck!

how does it compare to body attack? in regards to effort, calories burnt, etc? do you get breaks? does it hurt your back? ooh, and are those little bike seats uncomfy if you have a big bum LOL. (i havent ridden bike since i was like 10 or something)

Hollo - Body Attack is the hardest of the Les Mills classes (I instruct that too ), its based on three cardio intervals and includes pushups, abdominals at the end - and can be done high or low impact. You will feel totally smashed after a class, but also very proud of yourself for making it. You'd be looking at burning about 1100 cals per class if you go hard at it.

RPM (or Spin) starts of with a warm up, gently cycling to warm the muscles, then after that first song it goes into intervals of sprints, hill climbs (so your butt off the seat) combined with recovery periods (not rests ). You are the master of your own destiny in that you alter your resistance dial to suit yourself. So for your first class you could take it a bit easier, but to really reap the rewards you'd want to turn up the resistance dial and go for broke, the instructor will tell you when to turn up the dial and a great instructor will describe what and how you should be feeling too. If you love music it actually makes the class easier.

After the first class it may hurt your butt if you went to do another class the next day, depends how your butt adapts lol. Some people wear padded bike pants or buy a padded cover to go over the seat (from the bike shop) and use that to help.

cool, thanks for the info leesa. after i had DD1 i lost 20kg and got into the body attack classes. (i was never one of the ones up the front going hard though but i was always pushing it at my level-- by the way those bloody supermans are the worst) i did a step class recently and could barely get through it (just back after having DD2) so i was thinking attack is not for me as of yet. thats why i was wondering where spin/ RPM fits into it all. i think i will give it a go.

so do most people wear normal gym clothes to the RPM classes or do you wear bike stuff?

Hence the reason RPM is my choice of class after having a bubs, you can still do it at your own level and its easier on the body / joints etc.

Depends on the gym - if they have die hard gym fanatics / cyclists they may possibly wear cycling gear - but most people will just wear shorts and a t-shirt...

    Happy cycling!

I think that you're better off wearing tights than shorts because the time I wore shorts I got some shocking chafing.
Also your pubic bone might be a bit sore after the first couple of classes but it will adjust pretty soon.

    Thanks for the explanations.
Have figured out that if I wanted to do that all I would need to do was ride my bike around here, we have some steep streets, you get tired just walking up them, as well as some flat ones.
