    Down to 2 names

    Hi!

So I have had these 2 names for our little girl the entire time. DH is giving me the naming rights for this one as he wants to name any boy we have after his father as the family is quite traditional.

So they are..Saffron and Violet Our last name is Frederikos

Saffron is a name of one of my friends and I have loved it for years and I have strawberry blonde hair and so does my friend...It just clicks a bit for me and I have been saying for years that this is the name of my future child lol..

Lately I have been really close with my Grandma and as my mum isnt in my life and I really like my grandmas name I think it would be an honour to name our girl Violet after her..She is 86 and a really good soul kwim?

Im happy to call her either with the other name as the middle name but which do you prefer? What sounds nicer to you? Should I wait and base it on her hair colour? I know it can change so dont know how safe that is...

Any suggestions would be great, as I said I just love both names and I cant imagine not using either of them.

    Thanks!

I agree with Divvy; Violet is a lovely name, and Saffron flows so well as a middle name

    Violet Saffron Frederikos?

I think that sounds absolutely gorgeous!

Oh thanks everyone! It looks like everyone kind of agrees on the same I love the fact that when I see her I will be able to choose either as we havent confirmed either way much to the annoyance of everyone lol..Tbh they are lucky we even told them, you know how ppl can be with the old "why would you use that name"? rubbish...

I love Violet as the first name too and I just know my Grandma would be touched. One thing she said to me a few months ago was that she had only just started liking her name and when I asked her why she said "oh I just thought I should have been pretty with a name like Violet"..It really humanised her for me and I realised even our grannies suffered from self esteem issues..It kind of made me think even though there are so many years between us we are essentially the same..Hmmmm I love her

... i just love, love, love Violet Saffron

Such a gorgeous name ... and please, please do consider i am mean this in the kindest way & i'm gonna try & say it in the nicest possible way that sadly not always friendships last forever (please understand i would so want your friendship to last forever with your obviously very much loved friend " Saffron ") but our Grandmothers live within us forever (i went through the heartache of naming my one & only child after my much loved sister & my sister of all people had the biggest falling out with me when my DD was just a baby & it damaged our relationship in the biggest way, so whenever i write me DD's full name (she is now 3.5years old) with her middle name which is my sister's name it still breaks my heart. So, i hope you understand where i'm coming from. I know it's lovely to think our friends will be friends forever & no hurt will come with it but sadly there are no guarantees and i just think how much more easier & safer it would be for you (and your DD) if she were to be named after her wonderful Great-Grandmother ... and the wonderful heartfelt story that you just mentioned before to go with her name ... and what a cherished & precious GIFT to give to your Grandmother in her late years ... that's what i call pure LOVE )

(Natty, please i so hope you are not offended by my story but just food for thought i guess ... i would dread for anyone to go through what i have been through as when their name is there, there is no changing it) xoxoxoxo

    Wow I am overwhelmed!

Smiles4u Im not at all offended and I do know what you are saying is true. Ill find it extremely hard not to go with Violet for the first name more for the reason I think Violet has more emotional attachment iykwim? Saffron and I went to art school together and although we lost touch for a while there we have recently gotten back in contact and the first thing I said to her was "I still love your name for my little girl" I wasnt even pg then lol and I actually havent seen her IRL for 15 years lol...I just love the name not really for any emotional reason I just think its pretty and unique.

Im sorry to hear about you and your sister, I can relate in a small way as our family is quite fractured. I hope it can heal with time

Oh and I love cooking with saffron too haha Dh and I think that is funny

They are both flower names which kind of makes me laugh but it was not intentional. My friends sometimes call me "petal" when I am being all sooky and delicate haha.

Thanks all for your opinions I am so excited!!!!

    xx Natty

I don't think you can go wrong either way and the fact that you have wanted to use Saffron for such along time I think you should use it first. I do prefer Violet Saffron but she is not my daughter. Follow your heart and you can't go wrong.

I love the name Violet Saffron, and its even more special being after your beloved grandmother. If i was having a girl I'd love to honour my Grandma that way, unfortunately her name was not pretty like yours.
