There used to be a thread called "Exercise, Tips and Chatter" or something but that was aaaages ago so I thought i'd start another one.
Just to chat about what your doing and how well it's going etc...
Anyone in?
As of tomorrow i'm back taking all my old classes again after pretty much 3 months off, and I can't wait!
I've also been doing as much Pump as I can to help prepare for Pump training at the end of the month
I'm still sitting out the lunge tracks in Pump (just to be safe) and not teaching any tracks in Combat that have Esquivas but i'm going to have to start building them back in agiain slowly before training - otherwise I just KNOW i'm going to get given the lunge track to present lol!
I haven't had PT for a while (money ) but I don't mind too much because i've been doing Pump, but hopefully once I have a bit more money in the next few months i'll be back in like Flynn
well i am hopefully starting back up this week coming. ideally i would do step on tues, rpm on wed and pump on saturday but realistically i will only do step.
do you have any tips for rpm? i really enjoy it apart from the sore bum and 'ladies' area. that kinda puts me off it al together.
You betcha I'm in - I'll subscribe to make sure I don't miss a thing!
CQ - ahhh, Pump training at the end of the month, how exciting. Looking forward to the Pump 'Challenge'? Kim Knott (QLD now, but was in SA) was my trainer for Pump. Do you know who the trainer is yet? So you get the hang of the timing why not do squats during the lunge track (to the same counts as they are doing lunges) instead of sitting it out ? New LM clothing range out in Feb, can't wait!!!! .
Hollo - yeah as CQ said a gel seat can help, other than that (and padded bike pants) I've found that doing a session every 3 or so days help 'harden up' the area you speak of . When I first came back to RPM after having DS 5 mths ago I almost cried the second day I'd do RPM in a row from pain in that region - so I understand totally!!
AFM - I've swapped Body Pump (which I'd usually do twice each week) with RPM and Body Attack to burn extra cals due to the Xmas / New Years (also DH's b'day). It's worked as I've dropped weight down to my goal (fitting into my work uniform pants ). Not sure what I'll do tomorrow, usually it'd be RPM - but I've really been enjoying Attack lately...decisions decisions!!!
I am going back to training with my Step Into Life instructor from the 11th January doing a toning and a kick boxing class each week and I am starting the C25k tomorrow, getting ready for the 5 km event at the Bridges Fun Run here in Perth in April.
2009 was a great year excercise wise for me, I joined my Personal training group, stuck with it for 12 months doing between 2-3 classes a week and lost 17 kgs, now I am ready for my next excercise challenge which is the Fun Run.
Oooohhh I feel like I'm off to a GREAT start in 2010! I started seeing my PT twice a week in Marchish and have been plagued with injuries. The worst being slipped discs. For the last 5 months I've been severely restricted in what I can do because of my back (even walking has been almost impossible at times). But D (Trainer) helped me psych myself up for clinical pilates (I have group and personal space issues) and I've been doing that for about 3 months... and I'm finally reaping the rewards!!!! I am now able to work without my back brace (can't recall when I last wore it ) and have had a solid week of NO PAIN!!!!!!!! Even with PT! I'm not up to running yet but I feel like it's close again! Thus far I've lost about 8Kgs which I think is good considering the injuries... looking forward to losing much more!
Yep thats great news MG!!! I know where you're coming from with injuries
Ali - whats Step Into Life?? Good luck on the fun run...have you got a good training schedule?
Lees - do you think the clothing range will be out by workshop time? I'm not sure who the instructr is but I think it's Karen?? Kinda hoping it;s Ruthie T...as long as it's not Sharon Suusee - do you know her? She did my Combat training and she's a major cow!
I know it's totally slack not doing squats in the lunge track but i'm lazy lol! Everyone's mixing now but I have a copy (shhh) so i'll do it at home (yeah right)
Really looking forward to my first class back of the year tomorrow - put together an awesome mix and we are smashing are arms (I don't want to be in love owwww)!
well its just that i have 2 kiddies and they are not fans of the creche! my little one always screams the house down and my older one screams and clings and cries when i drop her off. its just a hassle for an hour a day!
but i would like to do at least 3 classes a week. i did step the other day (31st dec, so last sess of the year) and it was soooo bad! hadnt been for weeks. i was so contimplating leaving after only 30mins! hehe
i used to do attach before my second baby.. would like to start that up again at some stage during the year but need to get a bit fitter first.
so is it likely that we would all have the same instructors if we are in qld or something?
Hollo that sucks about the childcare I've been lucky because my kids have gone since 6 weeks old so they've always been very used to it!
But seriously don't wait till your fit to do Attack (Lees will tell you she's an Attack Instructor) just do it and take the lower options and it will make you fit so much faster...as much as I hate to admit it Attack will get you fitter quicker than Combat (although Attack is gay and Combat RULES!!)
As for instructors it depends where you are, are you in Brissy? And which gym...some have exclusivity (sp?) contracts but I tend to go wherever i'm needed (now I sound like Batgirl!)!
Ella have you shopped around? Some are quite reasonable...Lees should be able to give you better tips - she's the qualified PT But I guess walking/running around your area, and weights, don't forget weights...do you have any? Also I think there are a few Bootcamp type clubs around your way - are you in or near Jacobs Ridge?
i'm in a genesis gym atm. @rothwell. thats a good point about attack, thanks for that. but i vividly remember how horrendous attack was to begin with from when i lost 20kg after bub 1, i know what i am in for! gotta psyche myself up for it! eeeeeeek!
i had some free PT sessions when i joined the gym and they were really reallt good! i just wish icould afford them! its really expensive!
Oooh I'm in for this thread! I'm not even remotely fit, (unlike the rest of you!) but I'm back to the gym after a whole year off (pregancy with severe MS almost the whole time and 3 month rest after birth). I'm trying to do 100 minutes of cardio over 1 week plus 1 or 2 pump classes and 1 or 2 free weights sessions (I wait 48 hours between pump/weight sessions).
Ideally I'd like to get back into step, but I probably couldn't even manage 10 minutes at the moment!
Ella - I really like doing exercise DVDs from home. Big W had some called 10 minute solutions, which are mini workouts in a variety of different styles - lots of fun!
CQ - Hey - Karen Russell?? She's awesome - I'm hooked on BA63 at the moment where she presents tracks 2 and 3 - she makes everything look so effortless! It would be good timing if the clothes were available in time for the quarterlies wouldn't it - but I'm not sure, I think it may be the end of Feb .
Hollo - ANYONE can do Attack. There are low impact options - so you'll always be able to keep one foot on the ground. Then start using the arms to pump up the heart rate - and if you're anything like me you just can't help but go full throttle with the motivating music . Once you feel more confident you can start mixing up the impact levels you work at depending upon how you feel, with a gradual build up to high impact all the way baby!!
ruth - why not try Body Attack, keep to the low impact options - if you go to a gym let the instructor know so hopefully he or she will continue to demonstrate the options for you. With Step it actually requires you to get up and down off the step (er der - sorry for stating the obvious) but as the music and moves get gradually faster it may be hard to keep up in the beginning. Attack can offer all Step has to offer - just without the step .
Ella - yep I second what CQ said about weights - muscles burn fat quite quickly, so by continuing with Pump and free weights you're doing yourself the world of good!!
AFM - Just got both babies to bed, so it's time for me to 'turn it up' with Body Attack (I'm addicted now I think!). Or maybe its the reduction in the scales I saw this morning!! :-)
CQueen- Step Into Life is just a franchise of Outdoor Group Personal Training that operates Aus wide, my Trainer won Franchise of the year Australia wide this year which was awesome. I have found working with a PT in a group setting so much more motivating than anything I have ever done before.
Ruth- I found the hardest part when I was startin out last year, was actualley starting, once I had begun I was fine, and the more I did, the more I found I wanted to do, it was really addictive. Now I can't imagine not doing excercise as part of my weekly routine.
I did my first Run in the Couch to 5km program today and felt really good. I am used to running a bit, I run with my trainer, but now I am working on my endurance, I want to be able to run for long, and cover more distance, without having to stop and walk as often.
Ella i'm pretty sure there are some Bootcamps in JR
Yep Karen Russell she's awesome hey?!! Our workshop isn't till 20th Feb so maybe it'll be ready!
Taught my first class back today and it was awesome - huge energy - 34 peeps but they didn't groan enough after the conditioning track as far as i'm concerned
So what other at home dvd's would you all recomend. I don't have any weights, but I probably should get some shouldn't I, I've got 30kg to lose before we TTC#2 ARGH
