Hmm, a couple of questions is the ring "shining" or "matt"?
Do you wear it all the time?
And does it have stones in?

Ok, so I am guessing it will be shiney!
I would not get one of those cleaners, as with a stone they can losen them.
Will the ring be rodium plated or equivalent?

Umm..All I know is, 95% platinum with 5% Ruthenium, no copper added.
So a no go on the ultrasonic cleaner then. Any other suggestions?
Trying to find a jeweller a couple of hours from us who has the experience with Platinum, so I can have it cleaned/buffed up when I'm around there.
I've been reading a U.S forum where the ladies there are putting their rings in a mix of different things, even cleaning with windex and toothbrushes I don't think I could do that to any ring...

eta: Thanks for the replies Queen
How often can you go to a jeweller? TBH it is not going to need cleaning THAT often. Just take care of it, take it off when doing dishes (unless wearing gloves) gardening, do not wear in pools, beach etc
I would probably speak to the jeweller who is making your ring, but I *think* you just use a polishing cloth.
Oh what 'colour' jewellery do you wear now? Gold or Silver?

Thanks girls. I will have to get DH to ring and have a chat with the jeweller.
I wear gold, but wear a ring on my right hand that is a gold band with silver on it as well... this will come off for the new ring (my eternity ring) to go on. Won't be wearing it on the same finger as another ring, so to avoid 2 different types being side by side. There will be no other rings on my right hand except this one..
Do your rings naturally shine? Or are they dull?
I do not get my jewellery polished, as my silver shines with me wearing it.
    Sorry so many questions!
I think speaking to jeweller is best!
    btw I wanna see photos!!!

Yeah jewellers do clean em better!
I would just look after it at home, then when you go to jeweller get it cleaned.
Ooo sounds awesome can not wait to see it!!

I have a diamond solitaire platinum ring & I clean it with hot water with a dash of ammonia in & a tooth brush (recommended by my jeweller). Diamond comes up super shiny. The band itself is getting dull from wear & I need to get it back to the jewellers for a polish.

Lucky girl with your eternity ring! Enjoy! Sounds exciting! Can you link in a photo when you get it?

The other thing to remember is that Platinum is really soft but it doesn't scratch, it dents if that makes sense. So wheras other rings loose volume over time (think of great granny's rings - they are usually very thin) platinum doesnt. This just means that when you take it to a jeweller for polishing they need to know what they are doing. I would say take it back to the guy who made it - even if it is only every couple of years.

As for cleaning - warm water, dishwashing liquid and a toothbrush here too.

:yeahthat: That's how I do mine too (not platinum though, 18ct white gold). Our jeweller has made all of our rings and told us to clean them all this way. I then rinse them in hot water and dry them with a hairdryer. They come up super shiny and the diamonds are very sparkly

For what it's worth, he told us to only have it cleaned and polished once a year because over time it causes too much wear on the jewellery. I usually get mine done around our anniversary.

I have a platinum diamond solitaire engagement ring and a platinum wedding band. To clean the grime off the stone and ring I use warm soapy liquid and a soft toothbrush. Twice a year I take it to a jeweller that actually manufactures their own platinum jewellery (where mine were made) and they clean them professionally in a machine that gives them a very light sand-blasting. They come out good as new.
