    Question Should i be worried?

I posted a little while ago that i felt my clothes particularly my pants to be getting looser and i didn't think i was gaining any weight, well the other day just for fun i jumped on the scales at my local woolies and i weighed myself...... the scales read 87kgs since becoming pregnant i have lost 10kgs!! just to make sure the scales werent broken my friend who was with me knows how much she weighs and she jumped on and yep told her what she weighs to the exact kilo.

At first i was like WOOHOO go me, as i have not weighed that since i was 18. But then talking to my mum she said she lost weight during her pregnancy having my brother and at 30 weeks was told he wasnt gaining any weight and so she had to eat and eat and eat so that he did. He still came out quite small.

So far bubs has weighed what she is supposed to, a think maybe a little behind.

Some people think i am starving myself which is not true. I don't eat very much because most foods make me sick, and certain days foods that are normally fine make me sick. But then there are days where i am so hungry that i eat and eat.

I copped a fair bit of slack off a friend of mine, its not as i can help the fact that at 22 weeks im still getting morning sickness have days where all food makes me gag. I was quite offended by her comments.

Honey - if you are worried go and see your Dr.

But I wouldn't stress too much. I know several larger people who lost weight during pregnancy. So long as you are still eating (no matter now uninteresting the food is) you should be fine. Remember that your body will naturally give your baby everything that she needs, even if that means stealing it from your body - so make sure that you are getting enough iron and calcium etc.

I am guessing that you will probably have a midwife appointment soon - mention it to them if you havne't checked with anyone else before then.

I think if you're really worried, you should take a pregnancy specific vitamin (I took Elevit) so you at least know Bub is definitely getting all he/she needs. And just make sure you get enough calcium too.

i think that because you have some to lose then its "ok".. your body will make sure your baby gets everything it needs first. and then any discrepancies it would take from your "stores"

have a chat to your doctor..
and dont forget what may happen to your mum is unlikely to happen to you

Hi just thought I might be able to help

I am 20 weeks pregnant and I am a very tiny person, my original weight was 55 kg to start with (I am only just over 5 foot) then morning sickness kicked in and it was bad just like yours by the sound of it darl, I feel so bad for you, its horrible, anyway I ended up losing between 8 and 9 kg so i was 46-47kg and I still havnt put all the weight on. People are giving me a hard time to but if you think bub is doing ok and you can eat and drink when you feel the need to just go with the flow. I went and saw my ob about the weight loss and they werent too worried so its just what happens to some people. Stay strong big big hugs.

Babytalk i imagine your doctors would be watching your weight a bit more closely?? being a lightweight( ) to start with.. where as 1sttime has some spare.

Baby will be getting all that it needs from you and you are the one that is suffering by losing the weight. Your Caregivers would have shown concern if they thought it was a problem by now.

I have a friend who was 20kg LIGHTER when she gave birth than when she fell pregnant as she had severe sickness all the way though - her baby was a bouncing 7lb 8oz!!

Unless your Drs or midwives are concerned then I'd just eat what you can and go with it. And ignore all of the people who give you a hard time - at the end of the day, when it comes to being pregnant EVERYONE has an opinion on something!!

I had a bit to spare as well and I lost 7kg in the first trimester and then a bit more afterwards in my first pregnancy. DD1 was 4.04kg or 8lbs 14oz. She came at 42 + 3 weeks, so I don't think that you need to worry about the weight loss. Sometimes our metabolisms speed up during pregnancy and that is good for us to keep healthy and cope with the last weeks of pregnancy when we get big and uncomfortable. Eat healthy and good quantities and no matter of weight loss you are going well!

I didn't gain any the whole pregnancy... then lost 3 kgs at 38 wks! lol
everyone is different - if you are worried, see the doctor. But it is very common to lose weight in the first trimester - when was the last time you weighed yourself before today?

I'm sure everything is fine . I would be concerned you aren't eating properly - as a PP said your body will take everything from your diet the baby needs FIRST and your body gets what's left. If you are losing weight rapidly etc then take a look at your own diet and make sure you are eating a balanced diet and increase your calories a little

    I wouldn't stress,

it is quite plausible that bubs is gaining, while you are loosing in other areas,
    check with your doc/midwife,

definetly agree on the calcium though, make sure you are getting enough, because that is the hardest thing to get back, once a women reaches her early to mid 20's you stop creating calcium stores, and can only maintain them.

with DS, I weighed 63kg's at conception & 78kgd just before he was born (I gained 15kg).

this time I started off heavier at 73kgs, and am currently only 80 kg's (only gaining 7kg) - after eating easter eggs and all, i am looking forward to loosing the water, baby placenta & excess blood weight in the first few weeks, I might be skinnier than I was pre conception!

although was a lot sicker this time also, and found i could not eat at night. Found it easier to have a big lunch like pasta and a light dinner, bowl of veg or even just fruit.

Ive had to take calcium and magnesium supplements been getting the most rotten muscle cramps. i suppose some of it is because i have cut out a lot of crap that i used to eat, im eating more fruit and vegies. I'm not constantly snacking. Plus the days where i can't eat anything at all and what i do eat comes back up.

I don't feel lethargic or anything so i know that i am getting enough of what i need to have. It's just annoying now that iv mentioned to my mum that iv lost weight shes hounding me to eat more.

We went to the mall to do my shopping had lunch first, my brother got chinese my mum got a hot dog, milk shake and a donut (healthy i know) and i just had a small shake. She goes "is that all your going to have" and i said i wasnt hungry just thirsty and craving a milk shake and she then goes "well you need to eat more" i eat what i feel i need to no point stuffin myself when im not hungry.

I too am finding it hard to eat, I eat a bigger brekky, most days i have baked beans toast and eggs, then a smaller lunch and a smaller dinner. BUT in saying that i dont really want dinner i force myself to have something (if not me then my DH does) and i normally pick at it. I thought it was that i had to stand there and cook it myself, but no, i put things in the slow cooker and still didnt want to eat them that night.
So my thing is. I EAT WHEN IM HUNGRY! And in saying that, Its only 4.19pm and i think i might go and cook my dinner LOL.
Take care and dont worry about what others say, if you feel you are doing the right thing and eating when you can, then keep it up! Pregnancy vitamins are good too, Unless your like me and bring them straight back up
    Take care,

Ps i have only put on 2.5kgs... I was worried too, and then i figured that there is no point stressing yourself about it, its only going to do more harm than good. xox

It is normal to loose weight in the first half of preg. I lost weight both times and didn't start again until after the half way mark, so far 3kgs and I have not got much of an appetite, so I do my very best to make sure what I do have is good food, ie if I really don't want to eat I try to have a banana smoothy on skim insted (I can't have full fat milk).
If you've got enough weight on your bod there isn't a real concern with loosing weight during preg. I really wouldn't worry too much, just see what your Dr says at your next appointment.
Good food is always the best way to go, especially if you can't bare the horse tabs they call 'preg multivitemins' (I was just the same, the last thing you want to try when your throwing up all the time is to shove a big tab down your throat in the hope it doesn't come back up!)!
