    Ethics and finding work

Currently I am looking at getting back into the workforce, but am struggling down here to find good part-time jobs. One has come up that sounds interesting and has flexibility, just what I want, but, it is a huge but, it is for a weightloss company. I have spoken to DH about it and he says no. He does not want us getting mixed up in stuff like that. I can see his point, but it is not one of the companies that we really dislike. We both need to lose weight and have done so in the past. So to me, I am an ideal candidate for the job, especially if I can follow their program to lose some weight before starting.

What would you do? Just apply for the job and see what happens, even though it is going against DH. I do have my own hesitations about weight loss businesses, I could very well get to an interview and go "now way", but then again we do need more money coming into the house.

Can you do some research on the company and discuss it with him then?
Is it the pink one, I know they have a centre out your way.

Go to the interview at least. I don't get what the problem is? "mixed up" in what?

How involved would you be in the program itself? If you were just doing regular stuff like admin etc then maybe that wont conflict with your ethics on it so much?

    It is a consultant position.

No it is not the pink one, I could not do that one. This one is just setting up in town, it has a blue colour scheme.

Actually it is a bit hypocritical of DH. When we were in Melbourne and had the delivery business, DH spoke to them about setting up their home delivery system. He did not get the contract, which would have been great for us at the time. I don't think it is that though. We have friends who go from one weight loss thing to another with little success, or at least no maintaining the weight, so he is quite anti these businesses.

I would start the process and give it a chance. The interview process is just as much about seeing if the company is right for you as it is the other way around so do some research and have questions ready to help you make the decision. Good luck

So, he feels that they make money off people without much success?
Or it it deeper than that and more to do with the way they are run, ownership, investment etc?
Sorry Im just trying to play devils advocate.
There are lots of people who do lose weight successfully on these programs. Its sad that your friends did not, but it doesnt necessarily mean that all weighloss companies are scamming people to make a profit.
I have family members who've lost weight (and kept it off) on WW, JC and GM when it was around.
Id apply for it and go to the interview. In the interim you can do some more research if you'd like to

Ahhh I see. Maybe if his ideals on it are based on the way your friends have been, going from one to the other, his idea of them may be misrepresented a little? I think that in some situations you may have to put food on the table before your ethics kwim? Not that you have to become a sell-out, but you have to evaluate what is more important to you at this point in time. And like Jellyfish said, it is about finding out if they fit with you too.

I would say that it's up to you and if YOU'RE comfy with the prospect of working for them then that's that. It's not like HE has to work for them. Your ethics and his 'ethics' don't have to align perfectly

Thanks for that ladies. It is good to mull these things over with others. We are not in such a great financial position that I can get too picky, yes some jobs are just not worth it, but this one has a bit of a challenge, which is what I need.

I will apply for it and see what happens.
