My new Breadmaker - any tips for me?

Today I went and brought myself a brand new breadmaker, mainly because I have to buy DD bread with no preservatives and additives and I have to drive half an hour to get it so I thought I would invest in a bread maker instead. It does everything, from bread to jam to pasta which is great.

I brought a Lauckes bread mix just so I could try it out and OMG it is the nicest bread ever, so so yum.

Does anyone have any tips on how to make the cheapest loaf, buying the bread mix equates to $1.75 per loaf for me is there a way to get it cheaper, is it cheaper to buy bulk bread flour and yeast etc than the bread mixes.

i used to use my breadmaker a lot but have just started using it again.

I bought the 5kg bag of flour and this will give me 10 x 1kg loafs of bread. The bulk bag costs $11/$12. I only make a 750g loaf with it rather then the 1kg loaf and basically will be able to make about 14/15 loaves of bread.

So if you buy the flour in bulk it certainly works out much cheaper, less then $1 per loaf... and you're right, the bread tastes amazing.

and also has a great texture to it. I've chosen not to use the 'bread improver' because i like the texture it gives without it. You may find the recipes say to put bread improver in the mix, but you dont need to. A containter of yeast only costs $3 odd dollars so definately buy the yeast separately.

Lol Peg I was hoping you would reply after what you wrote in the thread about the additives in peanut butter, I remember you saying that you could make it for $1.

Do you buy the Lauckes brand in the bulk flour?

Are you using the Laucke in the boxes or the bag? The bag of white or wholemeal is about $11 for 5kg and comes with the yeast sachets. I mostly use the wholemeal in the bag and have the sour dough box on the shelf for when I feel like something a bit different.

i got one of each (wholemeal and white) in the 5kg bag.

Is sour dough a different flour? ( i love sourdough)
