    Elective C-Section

For those who have had an elective c-section.........what was it like compared to an emergency one?

I am - at this stage - having an elective c-section for this pregnancy. My last two were emergencies so having the epi etc was sheer relief (posterior labours, failed to progress even after being induced!) but it already feels weird this time. Kinda like skipping to the end of the book to find out what happened!

Just wanted to hear others stories (only the nice ones pls ).....kinda feeling nervous already!

OMG my elective was the most magical experience I have had, with Jack it was a emergency he was rushed from the room not breathing I didn't get to see him or touch him

with Luke I was prepared I knew what to expect pain wise...anyway he was bornn they showed him to me took him off checked and wrapped he was brought back I got a cuddle...once I was taken back to room Luke was in with me at less than 2 hrs old

Thanks Rach. i am hoping that my recovery afterwards will not be so tiresome as having laboured all night / day and that i will be more 'with it' afterwards!

Mine was in many ways more relaxed than the emergency (which was not a true run down to the table but was deemed emergency in the sense that at 42 weeks 3 days my induction totally failed and it was more a case of having to get DS out somehow..so i did alot of waiting around and did not sleep much for 36 hours but did not labour intensively). Also as things moved at a more agreeable pace and were planned I was able to really advocate for things I wanted, i was lucky enough to be able to feed in recovery with my elective..something I think largely circumstantial in that I was the only c section and therefore I had a midwife exclusively allocated to me who was able to hang around but still! I think the recovery was easier in some ways as I knew what to expect and knew what drugs etc agreed with me too!
    Good luck.

you definately wont have that same experience with an elective, you'll be in early in the morning (generally) you'll be awake and alert, it'll be over quicker then you imagine and your recovery time will be much quicker and easier then with the emergency. I think not labouring really helps in that regard because your body hasnt been put thru the stress so it can fully cope with the operation and recover much faster.

Pamper yourself the night before your elective....long hot bath, wash hair, moisturise etc etc

    all the best.
