    Wind pain and Infants Friend

Hi all. I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl on the 27th Sept 2010. She is now almost 3 weeks old, a wonderful baby except when she has wind pain and she'll cry and cry for hours especially in the evenings. Hubby and I can't settle her down no matter what we do. We tried different ways to make her comfortable as told and shown by the midwives when I was in hospital but so far nothing really works. I burp her after each feed but she still has the wind problem. I've been recommended Infants Friend and just wondering if anyone has ever used it before. Also if anyone could share tips to help relieve our bub's wind pain. My heart breaks every time she screams.

Infants friend is awesome! It really worked for our DD!
    Worth a shot I'd say!

Congratulations on the birth of your daughter!

Hi I feel your pain, my bub was a windy bub too...but thankfully grew out of it by about 3 months! I tried many things to help - all the things to do with how to burp and cycle his legs - nothing worked. I also tried infants friend which again didnt work, then Bruers Wind drops again didnt work. My lifesaver was infacol!!!!!! We ended up having to put it in every bottle (small price to pay for happy family)! So I guess I am trying to say if infant friend doesnt help try one of the others on the market as the change in my bub was dramatic! Once I found the right one :-) Hope things inprove very soon!!!! PS It does get better!

    Hi Jill,

a tip I read elsewhere on BB and have found works a treat is bouncing gently on a fitball holding your bub up on your shoulder. DS responds really well to that and calms down instantly.

Good luck finding what what works for you xx

Like others said u may have to try several of the products til u find one that works well with your bub, infants friend worked for us, but i tried several 1st.

Bouncing your bub gently on your knee, swiveling ur bub round at the hips, holding ur bub in ur arm facedown so there is a little pressure on there tummy can help too (this one works well for my bub usually). Pushing the legs up to their tummy, bicycle legs, massaging their tummy in a clockwise direction..... I think thats all i can think of for now.

Wind pain is horrible - DD1 and DD2 both had it and the crying is heartbreaking.

I used Infant's Friend for DD2 from 3 days old until she was a month old and it worked brilliantly for us. At about a month old, it didn't seem to help anymore though and we used Infacol. We used Infacol with DD1 as well and found it works great. Infacol is not recommended for babies under a month so probably give the Infant's Friend a whirl first and see how you go.

I hope you find something that works for you

    Thanks

    Hi everyone,
Thanks so much. I've given bub Infants friend. It took a couple of days to work. Now bub has stopped screaming from wind pain and seems to settle well at night. I've tried some of the tips from you guys and they helped somewhat. She has come out with something new though - fussing! She fusses several hours a day and recently she seems to start whinging from around noon till 10pm! She wants to be cuddled all the time and will cry the minute I put her down in her cot. Hope she'll grow out of it and not let it be a habit.

Hi, just wanted to know if anyone could give me some advice on when to stop giving bub Infants' Friend. I gave it to DD since she was about 3 weeks old and it works very well. DD is now 5 months old and I'm wondering for how long more will DD need to take the drops? I've cut down the dosage to twice a day (instead of the 4 or 5 times before). My two main concerns are first of the long term side effect of taking the drops for too long and second what if DD's wind pain starts to flare up again if I stop giving the drops?

I used infants friend as and when I thought we needed it. Not every day. Not staggered doses. DS may have it 6 times in one day then none for two weeks.

If the pain starts again, you could just start giving the drops again. I think their effect is short term (it doesn't build up in the system) and so you should be able to tell within a short term of stopping whether it was still having an effect.
