Eng - Now the link has been posted on our Belly Buddies group thread hopefully the girls will see it & join soon Wow, life sure is hectic with a newborn! I can't believe you are getting done what you say you've been getting done! I have done nothing besides attend to my little man 24/7! I know what you mean about leaving the house with a baby... I'm too nervous to with Damian because all he does is feed & sleep so the thought of him crying right through a shopping centre makes me a nervous wreck lol so we've all been house bound since his birth. But we've been loving it... it's amazing how much love you feel for something you created Ha... I also read how your little guy did a pee on you LOL (well I think that's what I read haha) well, you're not alone! The minute we got Damian on the table to be weighed after birth... DH & I had to dodge getting wet lol little boys hey How's your DD going now, as I remember you said you've been having issues with the new baby & all? What's been happening there...?

Hi I hope I can join in here
My little man wasn't due till Jan but arrived on the 5th of November.
Flynn is doing really well in special care and I am hoping for him to be transfered to a hospital closer to home this week when a bed opens up.

Hubba - WOW 3 children, I salute you!! You say Kara has severe reflux can I ask what that is like for you besides the vomiting? as my Damian has been crying a bit during and just after some feeds so was wondering if reflux is a possibility as I would hate for him to be in pain but I'm not sure if it's just normal or not. And any settling tips up your sleeve for the 1st month????

Kat - Congratulations on the birth of your baby, even if it took you by surprise & you had to meet him earlier. Looks like he's a little Scorpio like the rest of ours. I am really glad to hear that he is doing well & good luck getting him transferred. What happened? How are you feeling??

I made it to 26 weeks of my pregnancy with Flynn and was admitted to hospital.
I was told I had too much fluid and they couldn't let me go home as it was too dangerous (and I was thinking yeh yeh ur full if it) I later discovered how dangerous it was to have so much fluid.
So to make it easier for u all to understand I wont use the medical term of Polyhydramious and just tell u what I was told. Most women have between 5 and 24% fluid I had (at my biggest) 79% fluid. Now thats bad enough but as my daughter Bethany was a c-sect too there was alot of pressure on my old scar and there was a high risk of it tearing as well as a high risk of my waters breaking and going into premature labor.
I had 4 procedures called Amnio reductions (long needle into belly with tube attached and drained fluid out)
in total I had over 15 litres removed over the 4 reductions.
There were lots of risked involved with the reductions and with my 4th reduction I was thrown into labor.
I contracted for about 6 hours (while the doctors tried to work out if they could stop my labor)and when they did an internal I was 5cms dilated it was all systems go and off to theatre we went as there was no turning back from there.
Flynn was born at 1.15am on the 5th of November
The doctors got drenched with my waters even though they had drained 4.7 litres the day before there was still enough waters to splash onto the ground like a tipped over bucket when the doctors popped the sack around Flynn.
Flynn struggled to breath when he was born so was put on oxygen for a little while but after a bit he was breathing on his own. He is still in hospital as he is still small but he is not in NICU he is in special care as he doesn't need anything much asides from feeding and monitoring and he is in an open cot not a humidicrib.

Welcome Kat and i am so sorry to learn that ur little man came so early.I look forward to hearing how well Flynn is doing along the way.We had little kara 1 month early and that was stressful enough with all the little things that we went through with testing anf special care so i can only imagine what u have been through.

Danni- Thanks for the salute hun but its really not that hard.My eldest DD is 6.5 and DS is 3.5 so we have a good gap with Kara.We have our days but i wouldnt swap it for anything at all....This is coming from a woman who was told at 19 that she will never have children , so the fact i have 3 is a blessing......remind me i said that when i vent next ok lol....
Awww poor Damian..thats how we first became aware of Kara's reflux at justr br4 she was 2 weeks old.She would scream like she was in pain during and after a feed and then spew alot of it up..I was beside myself as i had never come across it with my other kids..so a trip to the dr diagnosed it and he suggested adding a thickner into bottles of EBM (we were olny expressing as we needed to know what volumes she was taking in as her weight gain was slow)..that worked well for awhile, but it got to the point where i couldnt keep up with her demands as after vomitting she would be hungry again..so a call to my dr and we put her on formula and added the thickner into it.....well the poor little pet became constipated severly..so onto coloxyl drops for that...howerver the spews remained and were quiet bad and projectile...so a visit to the chemist and low and behold he suggested changing her onto Novalac reflux formula..well i could have kissed the ground he walked on...within 2 feeds my baby was "normal" and no longer screaming in pain..this formula settles in their tummy so she was bringing up alot less.....was going well for a week and then we got the screaming again, so off to the paed, who has now put her on zantec and we havent looked back since.....i now have my happy baby.....we still have the spews (and still projctile at times) and it can be a pain in my butt but im glad she isnt in pain like she was.......The paed said it was ok if we ever thought she was in pain still to give her 1ml of normal mylanta (had a stock in the fridge from when i was pregnant)...i know it helped me lol.......If ur breast feeding it makes it hard to feed upright but if ur bottle feeding, try and feed him as upright as u can, ensure u burp him every 30ml and when feed is over, keep him upright for at least 30 mins to minimise the rise of the acid in his belly..also, wedge a rolled up towel under his mattress in cot or bassinett at around a 30 degree angle, it helps having them raised a little.thats if the poor darling has reflux.....these are the things we were told to do and found they worked for us.....let me know how u go...
As for settling tips, im a softie and say u cant go wrong with cuddles to comfort them..if u ask my hubby he will say i spoil the kids when they babies, but i dont think u can spoil a newborn at all.....lol.......the way i see it, is u do what u feel is right, not what everyone else tells u is right..I have always gone by this piece of advice from a wise aunt and have to admit, my babies are all the better for it....

Kat - you really have been through a lot, I can't imagine how you feel. I hope you and your boy are feeling better by the day.

Hubba - thanks for all the advice. Great to hear you're managing well with that age gap, as Hubby and I always said we'd have about 3 years between our children if we have more. With Damian, the funny thing I'd that it is not happening with every feed, just a couple of times a day where he looks really unsettled and in pain (it's distressing as it can last hours at a time). So we went to a paeditrician yesterday and they think it's wind and gas causing the issue as I tend to let him snack too much so they've told me to space out my feeding more to make him more hungry. So far nothings really changed so I'm not sure I have dine what you have said and baby really seems to love being upright when he is distressed so that helps a bit. It's horrible seeing your baby cry and not know how to help! (and yes I am breastfeeding). It's good to hear your bub is doing well now. Are you going to stay with formula feeding? And yes I'm a sucka I agree you can't spoil a baby cuddles it is for me too! Lol

Hope everyone's going well with your little babys, would love to hear how you're all coping! And Ella hope all is well with you, you're in my thoughts.

    Hello ladies

Isabelle is mostly doing well..she is no longer our orange baby and is getting a nice pink look instead

I am doing a combined breast feeding and formula at the moment and also expressing. I am only giving her about 45ml to 50ml of formula each feed though to encourage breast feeding.

We get the I am in pain or have bad wind cries at night between 1am and 4am and the only thing that settles her is laying on my belly whilst I sit on the lounge..not so good for me though. Today she is burping much better though so perhaps that will see an improvement.

She has not had a bowel movement since last Thursday which is starting to get concerning.

Hope every has a good day with their babies..Hopefully Ella will join us soon.
