    Jet lagged baby!!

We got home from the UK at 3am yesterday morning. DD hasn't slept a huge amount during the day yesterday but still seems to be horribly jet lagged.

I am going to keep us out all day today and expose her to sunlight and try and give her all of her normal naps. Is there anything else I can do?

She was a beautiful night sleeper before! I'm worried that I've totally wrecked that!

    Cheers

Just try to stick to her original routine. Might take a few days to get her back on track but just like us they will.

Don't mean to be the bearer of bad news but brace yourself as you may be in for a shocking week. We took our little man back to UK and Ireland when he was six months returning when he was just over seven. It was really wierd as he didn't seem to suffer from jet lag on the way there but had a shocking time when we got back here. We found that for the first few days that once he woke in the middle of the night he just wouldnt go back to sleep. I just go up and let him play and pyut him back down when he showed tired signs. During the day i tried to keep to his normal routine of when to put him down and he seemed to do those sleeps also. It was rough going but after a week he was staying asleep for longer and could be resettled if he woke.

How did she go sleep wise in UK. My little guy has a shocker waking and feeding anything between 2-6 times a night for the month. I think this might be why it took a little while for the good night sleeping to sort itself out in our case.

    Good luck

You've got all the right ideas, with the sun and sticking to her routine as much as you can. It might take a while, but you'll get there.

    Hey,

She slept like a champ in the UK, wasn't jet lagged at all and slept better than she ever has here. Today I have gotten her out and about and woken her from naps to ensure that she isn't turning day into night. We'll see how we go. I am well prepared and aware that things might be a shocker for a while - I don't sleep much at the moment anyway and don't seem to be suffering from jet lag either which is weird so it's not me I'm worried about.

The poor wee sausage has huge bags under her eyes and hasn't had her usual proper long sleep since sunday night - hope she gets some tonight!

    Thanks guys

I hope the sunlight works for you for tonight. I was the same as you, no jetlag at all, I wonder if it's because we're used to getting up in the night etc.

Don't worry, she might be a bit tired and cranky for a few days, but she'll be fine. I'd say do the same thing tomorrow and I'm sure you will get there. We only did the all-day daylight thingy on day 4 of being home, wish we'd done it immediately though. Did you keep her out til dusk?

    Hey Swoop,

I woke her at 9am, took her out in the pram for a long walk, then at 11.30am she had another nap. Woke her again at 1pm and then took her out again. Let her have a nap at 4pm (and slept with her myself then) and we both woke at 5pm. We went out again for a long walk in the pram which was good for all of us! She was ready for bed at 7pm and slept until 3.45am. I'm really happy with that, she seems to be less tired. Awesome!!

I am about to head back to bed with her (it's 4.30am) as she is showing me loads of sleepy signs.

Thanks so much for your advice and PMs, it's been invaluable!

    Hey!!

All good here, thanks. She is going to bed at 7pm ish and currently waking at around 3.30am for an hour - this morning it was 4am so I think that the early waking for an hour will slowly be phased out (I bloody hope it will anyway!!). We're out and about most days so she is getting there.

    Thanks for thinking of us!!
