    Hiya straggler
No doubt I will technically fall into the 16th-31st group (just so long as it's not with the January girls, they talk too much! And I don't want to be pregnant that long)

hi picketty! Don't be afraid of the november crowd - they're wonderful. I might sneak back over occasionally to see what they're up to.

Our little girl's name is Eleanor. We're doing really well - we were officially discharged from hospital home care today, and at 4060g she's only 10g under her birth weight at 8 days old. She's a big hoofer!

She's an awesome sleeper - last night we got 8pm - 2am and 3am-7am She was up almost all afternoon, and fed for three hours before bed, but I don't mind because I feel fabulous!

    Hi ladies,

Don't know whether to join you ladies in here or wait till my little one reaches his due date. I had Matteo on the 8th Dec, but he was only 31+1 weeks gestation, so is still in NICU. Doing great though.

Welcome Butterfly - good to hear your little one is doing so well.

We had our little man Connor Matthew on 25 November. He weighed 3572g, and was 10 days early so I'm very glad he didn't go to term to be honest. The labour was pretty intense, but fairly speedy, so it doesn't seem so bad looking back now. My waters broke at home after a curry (maybe the old wives tales do have some sense in them after all) at 10pm but no contractions. Got to the hospital at midnight and I was starting to cramp about 4 mins apart, but when the midwife inspected me and told me I was still only 1cm dilated I was so deflated. Had a couple of hot showers and walked around and realised that lying on the bed made the contractions worse, pethidine (just made me sleepy, didn't seem to lessen the pain), then I wallowed in a hot bath for about an hour and a half and had morphine, and asked the midwife for an epidural. When the OB came in at 7am and checked me out, he said I was 8cm dilated and so I was too far gone for an epi, so I had to do the rest myself. After much pushing, little Connor was helped out with a vacuum and arrived at 9.37am. Considering on the Tuesday before I had been tempted to phone the OB and ask for a c-section, I'm actually very proud of myself for having done it fairly naturally. I'm sure I wasn't thinking that at the time though!

Audax - I'm very envious of you having a good sleeper, our little man is proving to be very troublesome at night, and in fact all the time. He's our first baby and to be honest I'm finding it far harder than I imagined with bfing what feels like all the time and then him not sleeping properly at night. We've been trying to get him to sleep for the last almost 4 hrs - feed, bath, feed, put him down to sleep and he wets the bed, change, put him down and he just won't sleep. And he's crying all the way through this. And when he does sleep at night, he's waking about every 2hrs for a feed. We haven't yet worked out what the different cries mean, they all sound the same to me at the moment. Talking to different people - the child health nurse, friends, lady in the post office etc etc there is just so much different and often contradicting advice about what we should and shouldn't be doing. I don't know if he's getting enough milk because he's a very slow feeder and falls asleep on the breast all the time, so when I take him off I don't know if he's actually full or not. Some people have suggested formula to fill him up so he sleeps for longer, but I really want to give bfing a proper chance. I don't know what to dress him in at night so I don't know if he's getting too hot or cold. What is everyone else dressing their bubs in and what is the room temperature? I know the books say 16-20C, but that seems positively freezing, and in the Perth summer I'm not sure that's even achievable. The health nurse said to swaddle him, but if we leave him to sleep unswaddled he stretches his arms and legs out very happily, and I thought for a few nights he was fighting the swaddle, so I'm not sure he likes being swaddled anymore, but he's still too small for a grobag. Any suggestions about any of this?

    Marcellus - any news yet?

Jules and Myboys - what have you called yours? How are things going?

Picketty - just laying here waiting for my little man to go back to sleep and read your message. Honestly, it's like I wrote your post.. You explained basically everything I'm dealing with. I will get back to you later today about my story and you will hopefully feel a little better. We will figure things out, we are just first timers, give us a chance. Please stay in touch I'd love to keep up with how you're doing. Like I said - will write again today with more! Big hugs.

Butterfly - welcome! Please feel free to join us, we have such a lovely bunch of girls in here. I'm so pleased your little one is doing so well! I've seen quite a few of my friends go through the experience of having a prem baby and I see how tough it is, but so very worth it. Hope you are doing as well as your little one! If you ever need a chat I look forward to hearing from you. Good luck with everything.

Audax - how lucky are you! Send some sleeping vibes this way please!! Haha.

Myboys - how you doing lovely? How's princess Harper? Not sure about the link for photos but will work it out today cause I'd love to see your little angel!!!

    Hugs to all! Xo

Hey Babyluv! Welcome to the group Congrats on your little girl. What is her name? I have been meaning to do a sig for myself but have no idea how!! Must work it out...
My recovery is going really well but I had a c/s so not sure if it counts! I have had pain but nothing unbearable. I'm just struggling with not being able to do a lot of things..I'm on such strict instructions to not lift, hang out washing, drive etc...but two weeks are down already so I'm sure the next four will fly!

Picketty - Sorry about the reply early this morning, I was writing from my phone so couldn't type too much! My heart goes out to you, I'm feeling very much the same way. Have you had little Connor weighed? I had my little man Jacob James on the 3rd December by c/s. He weighed 2730grams and was 46cm's long. He was only a little fella but he is fairly long! The pediatrician thinks his weight gain is a little too slow so wanted me to start supplementing him with formula..I'll tell ya, when I got off the phone to him I cried hysterically for twenty mins. I too feel very strongly about breastfeeding. I had no idea how difficult things could be, and having a small baby is making it even harder sometimes!! How long does Connor go through the day with his feeds? I'm getting 2-3 hrs out of Jacob. By afternoons - any time between 2 and 4 he starts to get really irritable and is on and off the boob every half an hour to an hour! and sometimes this can continue into the night. I had one night there that I was up with him until 3.40am!! Needless to say we were both over tired and cranky.. I've had to start supplementing just to try and get some weight on him, but am giving him boob, expressed milk and formula (as a last resort) he's only had three bottles of formula so far and that's over the last three days. Luckily he doesn't seem to fussed on it and is still happy to go on the breast. I figure as long as I keep expressing it'll keep my milk producing and we'll be able to establish breast feeding properly! I don't know if that helps you at all but I guess I just wanted you to know that you definately are NOT alone when it comes to how you're feeling. I've been told something different by every clinic nurse, know it all people and pedicatrician out there!! But at the end of the day, take the cues from Connor and you will work through it together and find what works for you both. One suggestion, just drink PLENTY of water and eat as frequently as possible. I have found this to help me. Oh, and with the dressing of them...I'm really finding this hard too! I was told to feel the back of their neck or their tummies to get a feel for their temps, they should feel a nice temp, not hot or cold. I've been dressing Jacob in mostly just a nappy, singlet and little onesie with a tiny sleeve that just clips up around his nappy. He started off LOVING being swaddled but loves his hands and legs to be a bit free so we've come across this thing called "angel wrap" maybe you can google it but I will try to explain...we fold the top of a muslin wrap down about five cm's and place him on the top, we put his hands up into the folded area and then swaddle as normal, their hands are able to be moved around but they can't scratch their face and they won't get cold if you have the a/c on. We were told by a clinic nurse to keep the routine the same through day and at night. So for instance...Feed, change, feed, and if he's awake then give him some time but if he's going to sleep then swaddle him straight back up the same way and put him in the same place he sleeps all the time. Maybe this wrap could work for you? We've been putting our a/c on 22 and he's in a muslin wrap with a thicker wrap made out of cotton over his tummy down..

Hopefully that helps you some...I find the more information you have the better cause then you can try different things and work out what works best for you. I'm here if you need to have a chat, if you want my email or fb then let me know. I'm feeling exactly the same as you and keep telling myself that it's a short time and it will pass, as their bellies get bigger and they get used to the big wide world! Take care and chin up, you sound like you're doing a wonderful job. xoxo
