As some would know from my FB, my dd (12) had been fainting... been all checked out, all is fine.
But I fainted a lot as I got my peroid, and low and behold, she has woken up with her first period this morning.........
We have had pads on hand for a while, I knew it was coming soon!
She is in the shower cleaning up.
She is taking it quite fine, Adam and I have both talked to her a lot about it, and she even came and asked Adam what towel to get in case it gets blood on it.. so casual, it was funny!!
So congratulations to my little girl growing up, and a little congrats to me and Ad for raising such a calm, nice teen.... SO FAR!!!!!!!
Oh and what pads to i get her now??
I just grabbed the first ones for when it first happened, but what are the best ones??
I havent used them for years!!!
Awwwwww! It is such a massive moment when your daughter gets her period for the first time. Congrats to your daughter and massive congrats to you & Adam
My DD was having pains and we took her to the Dr who wanted her appendix checked. The sonographer told us it was only a matter of days before she got her first period. A few days later it arrived and we celebrated by buying her a special charm for her pandora bracelet.
Congrats! she does sound like a very level headed and mature young lady
Pads are generally all the same, my period for the first couple of years was very heavy at the beginning so super pads with wings worked best for me. Maybe you could take her shopping and get her to pick what ones she would like.
I always liked slim line pads, and used regular size because the larger ones would hang out the sides of my undies. A good overnight one is essential too. I would also buy her a box of super slim cotton tampons for when she's ready. My little sister went straight to tampons at 13, but it took me a long time to get the hang of them (I used to put vasoline on the tip to help it go in).
I think a gift would also be lovely. I plan to have my sisters and special friends donate a bead so she has a special necklace made up from the love of the women around her. A first period is so special and not enough is made of it imo.
Thanks ladies.. Ad has gone and gotten me maternity ones, but thats all Ive bought for a long time!!! lol
I got her to wear her pad, normal undies and then some gym undies over the top, so it didnt slip or bleed through too much.. I explained again how much she'd have to change them and keep an eye on things....
She just has some slim ones, not wings atm, so Ill grab her some today, and she can shop with me for new ones in the next few days.. poor thing, today is the last day of school, what great timing!!
Awwwww what a special time for you and your DD I suppose at least she only has today at school and the rest of her period she is at home so she can learn how to manage it. I have been thinking for a long time that I want to get my DD's some gorgeous cloth pads to use for their menarche and get them in the habit of using cloth pads right away. Do you think she'd be into that at all? I see it as a way of making you feel nice at a time when it can be a bit yucky kwim?
She sounds like a complete darling PB, well done hun . It sounds like she is making the adjustment really well. Also, love the idea of gettting a pandora to celebrate. I remember my mum said to me 'I bet you want some chocolate hey?' I was like "YES!!! yes I do! How did you know?' LOL Like mother like daughter here too Chocolate Magnums all round!! Rach xx
My DD buys her own pads & tampons now and she buys Moxie brand. They're in very girly looking packaging, which is probably why she buys them.
My DD has been using tampons pretty much from the start too as she was invited to attend a male friend of the families beach party a few days after getting her period for the first time.
I asked her if she wanted to stay home, but being her last day at that school, she was going to have her uniform signed and get photos of the ones not going to the same high school next year.. she really hardly seemed bothered at all!!
But I was pretty much the same, and never got cramps so hoping she takes after me!!
She normally walks to school, its just up the road, but she did ask Ad to drive her, cause she probably shouldnt walk when she just got her period... she is such a character!! I told her how running around could give her a rush of blood, and to keep checking her pad, so she told Ad walking wouldnt be a good idea... and she wants a lift home too please!!! Shes a funny, quirky kid!!
The only ones Ive used in 15 years are maternity pads!!
I just wasnt sure if I should get supers, mediums, wings, no wings, pink packet, orange packet.. there are so so many!!!
Poor chook, just came down to the pool and asked if I was getting out soon, she wants to hop in with me.. I had to say.. ummm, dont you have your period??
"oh, yeah".. she said... shes not the brightest on the block!!!
When should you let them try tampons??? Ummm, new thread I think!!!
