Awwwwww! It is such a massive moment when your daughter gets her period for the first time. Congrats to your daughter and massive congrats to you & Adam

My DD was having pains and we took her to the Dr who wanted her appendix checked. The sonographer told us it was only a matter of days before she got her first period. A few days later it arrived and we celebrated by buying her a special charm for her pandora bracelet.

Congrats! she does sound like a very level headed and mature young lady

Pads are generally all the same, my period for the first couple of years was very heavy at the beginning so super pads with wings worked best for me. Maybe you could take her shopping and get her to pick what ones she would like.

    Congrats
I remember i cried so much when i got mine as my parents werent as cool and open as you guys =)

ummm yeh i prefer pads with wings, the ones without always seem to slip.

Maybe get her some funky libra ultra thins. They are thin but super absorbant

I always liked slim line pads, and used regular size because the larger ones would hang out the sides of my undies. A good overnight one is essential too. I would also buy her a box of super slim cotton tampons for when she's ready. My little sister went straight to tampons at 13, but it took me a long time to get the hang of them (I used to put vasoline on the tip to help it go in).

I think a gift would also be lovely. I plan to have my sisters and special friends donate a bead so she has a special necklace made up from the love of the women around her. A first period is so special and not enough is made of it imo.

    Congratulations to your dd!!

Thanks ladies.. Ad has gone and gotten me maternity ones, but thats all Ive bought for a long time!!! lol

I got her to wear her pad, normal undies and then some gym undies over the top, so it didnt slip or bleed through too much.. I explained again how much she'd have to change them and keep an eye on things....
She just has some slim ones, not wings atm, so Ill grab her some today, and she can shop with me for new ones in the next few days.. poor thing, today is the last day of school, what great timing!!

Awwwww what a special time for you and your DD I suppose at least she only has today at school and the rest of her period she is at home so she can learn how to manage it. I have been thinking for a long time that I want to get my DD's some gorgeous cloth pads to use for their menarche and get them in the habit of using cloth pads right away. Do you think she'd be into that at all? I see it as a way of making you feel nice at a time when it can be a bit yucky kwim?
