    Sitting in a shopping trolley?

    Hey guys,

When was your little one ready to sit in a shopping trolley? IF you do this at all?

DD can sit up unassisted and rarely falls over these days - her balance is pretty good. Do you think she's ready?

Oh and where do you get those really cool seat covers for the shopping trolley? I see loads of people with them but never see them in the shops or anything!

    Thanks in advance

I would say she is ready now hun

I have a trolley cover by No More Nasties. DD just loves it, she is such a poser when we do the grocery shopping! It has nice bright colours, has its own seat belt so you dont have to use the grotty trolley one, and it covers all parts of the trolley your DD could touch so she wont touch any germs. Can also attach toys to it, and has a pocket for anything you want to store in it.

Mine were both around 5 months. They were much happier sitting upright. I didn't have a trolley cover thing, but neither of them got sick from trolley rides

When she could sit up by herself without falling over, probably around 6/7 months. My mum bought her a cover from Big W, I think the brand was Trolley mate. You should be able to get one from a specialty baby shop if you can't find one in Big W/Kmart. There's also the Trolley Monster brand, but they are quite expensive. they have a FB page as well as their website, if you googled they should come up.

ETA: I got my cover for the comfort factor, rather than being worried about germs..I don't think I'd like to sit in one of those seats when you don't have much padding, especially for their back.

Cool! Thanks everyone. DH and I usually do the groceries together on a saturday morning but this week DD and I are going to do it on thursday because saturday is xmas day - I just didn't want to be juggling the pram or sling and a shopping trolley!

    Thanks xxxxx

I agree- sounds like your DD is ready. Both my DS's were about 6 or 7 months I think- just when they were able to sit properly.

We got our seat cover at Big W- was about $40- ours had a little pillow and lots of attachment toys- it converts to a little playmat (not that we've used it for a playmat- cause they were to active to want to sit still on it by the time we got it).

I used it all the time with DS1, but these days with 2 of them I seem to always forget to take it- by the time I get us ready, pack nappy bags for 2, pack snacks, grab them both waters and make our way down to the car- along with my recycle shopping bags- i just don't have enough hands and memory left...lol! Plus now that I've got 2 sitting in the trolley I usually have to try get one of those double sitters- so it wouldn't fit anyway. I wonder if any has designed a double one? Anyone seen one? Or do you just buy 2 bigger ones?

She should love it! DD loves to sit up in the trolley, although the first few times I made sure she was in a good mood and not too tired, a bumpy car park and she still holds on for dear life! What cracks me up is if we're zooming through the shops she doesn't seem to like going backwards, so she turns to face the way we're heading leaning her arm over the back of the seat. She looks like 'hey how you doing' reclining back in the seat lol

You'll have to protect your shopping list too as it will be fair game the whole time

I got a trolley mate from Target for $30. It has a little pocket thingo I used to shove my list in and a ring for a few toys to clip on. it's squishy enough to stop the bars digging in. I was more worried about DD getting a chipped tooth or hurting her mouth from someone hitting us or me bumping into a shelf rather then germs

DD doesn't like the trolley now but I put the trolley mate in her pram so it's a bit cooler in summer and I can whip it out to wash it if she smears stuff

My DS's are the same- except for when there is the 2 of them in the trolley...cause there is no room to do so plus they've got each other amuse or annoy each other...lol!

It's also the time you realise just how super long their arms can be!! DD loves trying to pull the price tags off the shelves, or trying to grab anything and everything off the shelf

Sounds like your LO is ready Mine were about 5 months and could sit upright without too many spills when I started getting regular trolleys instead of the ones with capsules (are they made for small babies or what?! My two couldn't fit in the capsule past about 3 months of age, they were too big!). I used to keep a 100cm-2 blanket in the car to line the trolley seat for the girls, but I have seen the proper covers at the local baby store so you could always try there if you're after one
