What to do with fresh figs??

We have a fig tree in our new house and the figs are ripening. I have managed to rescue a few from the birds eating them and have no idea what to do with them? Another thing is I'm not 100% sure they're ripe! They are green at the stem and a purplish colour at the bottom. They are getting softer (I picked them yesterday) so I assume they are ripe. I opened one up and it looks ripe with pinkish flesh. I tried some of it and it was rather bland. Not yucky, but just not as delishious as I was hoping, lol! So what could I do with them?

Eat them cold straight from the fridge! Yummo. Peel the skin off and eat the inside flesh (although I have been known to eat them skin on!). In a salad they can be nice too, google for recipes.

Have them for brekky (or a snack) with natural yoghurt and honey drizzled over the top. i was watching one of Jamie Oliver's shows the other day and he made dried figs, just put them in the oven on a very low temperature and leave them until they've dried out. then you could just have them as a snack, or chop finely to put in a slice or something. He made some fancy breakfast with them, if you googled you could probably find his recipe.
Or if you can collect enough, fig jam?

    Ooohh, yummo!
There are heaps of new little ones coming on the tree, but the birds get them as soon as they show signs of ripening! I will have to watch them, lol!

can you get a net to put over the tree? or hang old cd's from the branches, the birds don't like the reflection/shiny-ness of them.

Make jam with them! We had a fig tree when I was a kid and mum would make the yummiest jam with them.

Try this yummy thing: Halve them, then place them vagina side down on a really hot pan. When it starts going smoky, douse them in a sweet white wine (non-alcoholic works well too) and sprinkle a bit of brown sugar. Let the wine stuff thicken up a bit into a syrup, then serve it with mascarpone

OK, so I have some in the oven now, on about 120deg. Do you think they would be nice with a bit of cream and honey? Or should I just wait til tomorrow and get some yummy yogurt??
