Using frozen banana is awesome, it makes it fairly thick like a thickshake. Have made them for DD before, just banana and some milk then whizz it up. Banana & mango/strawberries would also be really nice. Don't have to freeze the fruit of course, I just like the ice-creamy texture the banana gives.

Back in NZ you could get frozen strawberries, but since arroving here i havent made my smoothie.

I'd use a small pot of yoghurt, half a banana, refill the pot of yoghurt with fruit juice along with a handful of strawberries.

I made a Left Over Caramel and Berry Pav Smoothie day after Boxing Day... was soooo good! lol
Froze the left overs as iceypoles for DD, she loved it! lol

Usually though I use plain yoghurt and any fruit we happen to have.
Charlotte loves blueberries, strawberries and bananas. I add a spoon of honey or a scoop of icecream sometimes, again, I make a huge batch and freeze the left overs as ice creams for her.

I put about a cup of yoghurt and a handful of frozen berries! If it's too thick I add some ice and freeze extra for DD in icypole moulds. I have also added canned pineapple and mango before

My kids are the same, especially my daughter. Doesn't eat much, but is always up for a "mana milk" (her word for banana milk). I use smoothies as a vehicle to smuggle a whole lot of nutrition into her diet.

So, as you might be able to guess, I use bananas & milk as my basis. Makes it nice and sweet and thick.

I also sometimes add frozen berries (or fresh, when strawberries are in season or I need to use up some blueberries). DD insisted on "pink" milkshake for a while (everything had to be pink) so I added strawberries to sooo many things.

I almost always add some flax seed oil for the omega3. But not too much, so you can't really taste it.

I often use half milk and half kefir (a cultured milk that I make myself) for the probiotics. You could use plain yoghurt or buttermilk instead.

I also sometimes add honey, if it needs sweetening.

Or bee pollen (which is meant to be a super food). Either sprinkled on top or blended up with it.

I have tried almond meal and rolled oats, but none of us likes the grainy texture. But it would turn it into a liquid breakfast.

I also tried smuggling in some cod liver oil with mixed results. I wouldn't recommend it, but she did drink it.

I would suggest starting pretty plain first and then, once your child is "hooked", you can get a bit more adventurous.

ETA: I also make icypoles out of some of the thicker smoothies.

This morning my kids had banana frozen blueberries strawberries and mango with milk and scoop of ice-cream . Also added probiotic and multi V . My ds had a spoon of fish oil before drinking his as it helps him "swim like a fish". My kids are fussy eaters!

It is not fair to let pregnant women read this thread. I now REALLY NEED A SMOOTHIE!!!!!

I use any fruit that looks like it might be nearing its end, yoghurt and milk.

Frozen bananas are a good idea. Will get cracking on that.

    Frozen Bananas!! they are awesome

DS (18months) loves Banana Smoothies. We use one frozen banana, 3/4 cup of milk, 1tbs wheatgerm, bit of honey, bit of cinnamon, and a couple of tbs of natural yoghurt. I just have a stick blender and it works fantastically.. for a special treat I will add a small amt of icecream, to make it into more of a thickshake. That makes enough for the two of us to share a smoothie.

I also use frozen berries for a bit of variety.
