    Easter for diabetic kids

As some of you are aware I have 2 children with Type 1 diabetes and I'm wondering what to do for them this Easter to still make it special iykwim. They can have a little bit of normal chocolate but not to much obviously. I don't want them or the other kids to miss out so what ideas do you ladies have????

Just a thought...But perhaps you could get some sugar free chocolate, melt it down and put it into egg molds.

If you dont want to go to the hassle, most chocolate shops have diabetic Easter eggs. You may even be able to order some treats online??

    Thanks ladies.

Olive - I will have to check out Woolies. I seem to look everywhere but find nothing and obviously my kids can't be the only diabetics in the country. Just wish the companies took them into consideration when promoting Easter

Hey hun, could you get some cute real egg cup holders for them. Lots of palces do a set with cutlery and a mug or something but you could just get them the dining ware stuff on it's own. You could also get stuffed toy rabbits/chickens. Hope you have a fun Easter - Im sure they will be happy with what they get hun! Ours are getting one egg with a mug and then we will do an egg hunt - you could do it with boiled decorated eggs?! We also do those for fun as well because I don't see the need in buying a multitude of eggs and chocolate when they are so little.

I'm hoping to avoid the easter = chocolate link with DS when he gets older so have been on the look out for other ideas...

bake hot cross buns together (diabetic friendly recipe!)
make easter figures out of salt dough, bake and decorate
Decorate eggs (either boiled with food colouring or use onion skins/beetroot etc to dye naturally OR blow the middles out and decorate with paint, glitter, sequins etc
Make bunny ears, pom pom bunnies and chicks etc
Easter egg hunt with plastic eggs that you can putt little (non food) treats inside. Some could have mini (sugar free) eggs inside. I've see them at Lincraft, Spotlight and $2 shops.

Thanks again ladies. Some good suggestions there. I did want to get them some chocolate eggs as they miss out on so much as it is. My 2yo maybe doesn't know what it is about yet but my 10yo certainly does. He is the one that looks at the other kids as they pig into their chocolate and gets angry that he can't have any.

I will try to get some moulds and do the melting of the sugarless choc and make some up for them. They get things like some winter pj's and slippers (I don't just get chocolate ) but was wondering about other ideas so thank you so much for some other suggestions.

feeb - will try Darrell Lea as well - didn't think of them

Tanstar - I will try to find some cutlery for them also. My youngest were asking for some special ones of their own only the other day.
