anger & tantrums over a substitute teacher...

looking for some advice on this,

we had our usual how was school chat, he said it was good except the teacher wouldnt give him a computer. didnt think much of it, he was 15 mins late, so thought he may have been a little to late for comp time.
he was in a feral mood this arvo, pushing ds2 arround, not listening much, he calmed down after dinner, but started up once it was bed time, yelling screaming, kicking his bed and the wall.
i got him to calm down and we had a realy nice little chat i asked him why he was so angry and upset.
apparently his new teacher today did everything wrong, he didnt get a go on the computers when everyone else did, they didnt do anything there regula teacher dose, and he hated it.
i explained about difrent teachers do diffrent things and all that, he asked about when i was little and had new teachers. also asked if we could talk to his normal teacher about it tommorow.
he gave me a bit of his school work from today, and she marked it with x's and the correction then commented at the bottom, "why do you have to scribble?" now Df isnt happy with this at all, im not to impressed either as he is only in prep, i think marking and critisizing a 5yo's work like that isnt the smartest thing to do. but them im use to seeing encouraging comments from his teacher, pointing out what he can and did do well.

bah, just needed to clear it out of my head! not sure if he didnt cope with a new teaching style, or if she was a mean teacher. (the look on her face at home time could have froze anything!)

Oh the poor thing sounds awful for him.

I have no experience with what kids do or are expected in prep but that sounds really mean to write on his work!! The kids in prep are between 5 and 6 they of course wills scribble!!!!!!! They have been at school only a few months not years!!! Maybe the teacher is used to grade 5 and 6 rather than age 5 and 6.

Hope tomorrow is a better day xoxo

I wouldn't definitely have a talk to the normal teacher tomorrow and express your concerns you will properly find that you won't be the only one!

    Good luck!

to both you and your ds!!
I would definently talk to his teacher about it tomorrow and show her his sheet she marked also, I don't see how negativity towards a child especially his age can bring out positives?? If anything it's made him feel useless and less equal. And that's sad.
I hope he has a much better day tomorrow..

goodness me! I am/was an early childhood teacher and for the majority of years taught preschool/prep..... what this relief teacher did is waaaay outta line, granted they may have never stepped foot in prep class before but common sense prevails or it should. I am soooo sorry your son had a rotten day, I hope his reg teacher returns soon! And yer I would totally bring it up - some ppl just arent equipped to teach littles (i know how horrid it was stepping into a high school to do relief work - NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER AgAIN!)

I agree that her behaviour seems inappropriate. I would make some enquiries too. Poor little guy!

Thank you ladies. im going to speak to his teacher this afternoon about it, i slept in again today so he was a little late and i didnt want to disrupt the class for a "chat". as we were walking to school he mumbled to me a few times how he hopes his teacher is back today.

Yes, follow it up. School is supposed to encourage children not tear them down. If the normal teacher is not there mention it to the principal or vice principal. Let them know how the work was corrected and how upset he was at the end of the day. Sometimes sub teachers will not be employed in certain grades if they cannot cope. Getting good subs can be really hard.
