yea I would have thought portrait as in people, not the way the paper was. but if they specifically said the orrientation then you should be right.
The local shire is running an art comp and the 'theme' is 'PORTRAIT'
As per the local paper: "the artwork can be anything, it just has to be up and down (portrait shape), so the creativity can be just endless for that"
What would you take from that, i personally think of a portrait as a picture of a person.
The 'art work' has to be postcard sized.
Would landscape or nature photography fit this category?

I'd be interested in seeing what people enter, my 'photography' would by no means be up to an 'arty' standard, it's taken with my crappy little P&S but it's nice to dream![]()
See would THIS be classed as 'portrait' shape
personally i have quite a few landscape/flower photos that i would use as postcards but others might not and well their not exactly arty![]()
I thought portrait means people, that pic would be landscape? anyway, maybe you can do like a photo of a person's shadow or use light and shade on a person?
lol i dont know.
I read the paper entry as anything that is portrait shaped (which your linked photo is). Portrait the word, can mean both of a person or describe paper orientation - e.g. when you print anything you choose the orientation of the paper as either "Portrait" or "Landscape" - it is a bit confusing but the paper orientation words probably came from fact that portraits of people were normally done with the paper height greater than width, and landscapes/scenery with the width greater than height. If the paper didn't use the words "it just has to be up and down (portrait shape)" then I would have assumed portrait of a person etc but it seems that is far more open than that and can be anything on a portrait orientation postcard size.
Thank you, i don't think i have anything worthy of entry but i wondered as i personally thought PORTRAIT = PERSON
Hmm maybe i should sell my flower pics for postcardsahhh how funny.
I don't sell anything, but I do get some of my photos/artwork printed as postcards/cards via Zazzle (with Zazzle you don't have to order multiples of the same image to get the bulk discounts) to send to people for all sorts of occasions - is cheaper than having to buy cards all the time especially if you buy when Zazzle (or Snapfish whoever) are doing a discount - and that way people get to see your pics, and I get lots of nice comments from people about the photo/artwork. The hard bit is remembering who you have sent which design to previously! Is a nice way of sharing your hobby (Zazzle lets you design back of postcard/card so you can put text so people know is your own work).
Thanks for the tip, I made pics for mothers day just printing through big w, wasn't impressed.
Sent from my iPhone, more than likely while I should be doing something else!
ZF - Just clicked on your 365 project and just wanted to say I love the pic of Phar Lap - like you say in your comment the reflections in it really make the picture, and it has a definite ghostly air about it - pity is a square shot (or have you cropped a square from a larger pic) and not portrait as I think that would be a cool postcard sized piece of art.
As long as your print is is portrait orientation then it can be any subject!"the artwork can be anything, it just has to be up and down (portrait shape), so the creativity can be just endless for that"
It's easy to re-crop into a different orientation but just be wary of the composition when you do it![]()
