How long will DD need a pushchair?

Mods, I'm not sure that this is the right place for this thread... please move it where it fits. Thanks.

How long do kids need a pushchair?

When DD is 2, she will have a new baby brother or sister. Now, I have a pram that is suitable from birth and also a hugabub. My plan was to put bubba in the HB and DD in the pram until bubba was about 6 months. Or you know, if DD is happy running around, put bubba in the pram. Basically switching them aound so the pram is in constant use.

But then when DD is 2.5 and bubba is too big to be carried, will DD still need a pushchair?

Am I better off just getting one of the 2 seater ones now?

How long do kids need to sleep in the middle of the day?

    Thanks, am pretty cluesless...

DS1 will be 3 in 2 weeks time and he still regularly sits in pram or asks to be carried!! I am glad we have the phil and ted Dash so they both can sit in pram.

I did use close carrier for first 6 - 9 months a lot as well.

DS1 stopped napping at 25 months when he went into a bed!!! He will nap some times if really tired he will crash on couch and does generally sleep 1 day a week at CC. (only goes 1 day)

It's hard to say as it depends on the child and how much you walk. We walk pretty much everywhere so dd1 could get tired and still sit in the pram at 4. Other kids I know have stopped going in it at 2.

This sounds exactly like my situation 2 years ago! I did not wish to spend money on a new pram, so - like you - planned to use the hugabub for the first bit, and see if DD would start wanting to walk.

Then I saw the ergo! Problem solved! The ergo is much easier to put on, and I am still using it with DS today (on my back). I have even carried DD (aged 4) in it, on my back. I also found that with my pram, if it was in the upright position (DS strapped in), DD happily sat in the basket.

When we go to the shops, I can put DS on my back and DD in a trolley, sometimes DD sits in the trolley (or walks) and DS in the trolley seat. I also have an umbrella stroller for those trips where you don't need a trolley (though it is used rarely, because DD does prefer to walk). Sometimes I insist that DD go in the trolley or the stroller, because if she is in a 'mood' that is best for everyone ().

So long story short - see how you go with the hugabub/pram plan you have, if that doesn't work you will probably see a new solution based on the situation.

Congratulations on your pending arrival...a very exciting time.

It very much depends on the child and what you do. Is she a runner, or does she walk nicely by you and do you go for long walks etc. I had a second hand double pram just for walks with my first two as DS1 was 3 and too big for a stroller etc but still known to run off. It's also good if you are out & about at a show etc for a long time & they can all rest. 2yrs is still very young. Could you get a second hand pram (with two seats) or a double stroller they are cheaper.

I am in same situation and what have decided to do is get a buggy board for back of stroller (got cheap on eBay) and wait and see when I get tired of carrying number 2 what stage DD is at. At the moment she likes to walk everywhere but that may change, she will still sleep in stroller, but I figure I can swap them round and carrying number 2 if she wants to sleep or if she is walking or riding on buggy board he can go in it. We also have a second stroller got given for free so if was out with DH all day for example could both push one if necessary. We have small car and use trams alot so figure double would be awkward so trying to get away without. Mind you I tend to leave all my purchasing to last possible minute as I find predicting exactly what bubs will need in future difficult and hate the thought of getting something not quite suitable.

Same situation here. We bought the bullet and got a double side by side. My older DS is a runner and isn't keen on the ergo. We've also kept our single pram and I've bought a skateboard for when older DS understands he can't run off.

I imagine we won't use the double all the time and it will be in reasonable condition when I sell it second hand in a year or two.

Thanks everyone for all your thoughts & experiences.

DD is happy to walk next to the pram at the moment, but walking is very new for her, and she thinks she is helping by holding on to the pram (which she is by not running off). But I also know that this can change in a flash, especially if she's tired, or sees a pigeon!

So, I think I won't sell/buy anything yet, and just see how we go and figure it out later

I got rid of the stroller when DS was 4.5 years old. Up til then I still used if we went for long walks down the street or if we went on holiday to the city where lots of walking would be done. Depends on the child I think, I had a child who was sooky and whose legs got tired VERY quickly lol

I got a double stroller and it was fantastic. It folds up not much bigger than a normal stroller so even if you do have a small car it wouldn't take up much room. I got a new pram for DD4 but if I have to take DD3 and DD4 out together then I use the double stroller still and DD3 is 2.5 yo
