Tupperware or equivalent? Help with pantry!

    Hi ladies,

I'm being swallowed alive by the pantry. We need some kind of system - we have a few random bits (glass jars, Brabantia canisters, lots of cheap plasticware), but no overarching system.

If you use tware - tell me why you love it, and what I need, and how to afford it!

If you use something else - tell me why it's better!

I really like the sistema range (clip ones) but I find they break??

I'm a Tupperware lover!! I got a modular mate set by having a party for my kitchen tea, and people gave some money to go towards it. I ended up becoming a demonstrator for a little while and bought more that way, as you get a little discount. If you keep an eye out sometimes they have specials on the modular mates. Also you could try eBay to get some stuff as well!! Good luck organizing your pantry.. And you've reminded me I need some more too!!

I love it cos it's all even. Can get different sizes to suit your pantry & also select the colour seal. I went with black, and have mainly super oval & rectangle mm's.. So I can stack up, as well as across the pantry!

I use Decor and Sistema, as they're affordable, don't have to worry about them though if they break or get left somewhere. If things change and I need different sizes, I have no qualms about getting rid of older containers too.

I only buy square and rectangular containers now, they work best in my flat.

    Tupperware addict here.
The best way I have found to afford it is to have a party yourself, invite as many people as you know (DH takes the catalogue and the order forms into work and will get me extra sales that way too, even random strangers on the street will do ) and then buy it. The sales from your party help add money towards your own purchase. Also check out the monthly specials, because they will often have the good modular mates collections on sale - you just have to find the right month to host your party in.

I have recently switched to the Sistema pantry storage. I find it really good and reasonable prices. I got a few "packs" at kmart and buy more at Coles if I buy a new "ingredient" I like the seals are "husband proof" so containers are always sealed iykwim!

I was going to re-kit my pantry in Tupperware, but when I looked into all of the modular mates etc, I found a lot of the sizes to be impractical. I also needed to maximize on stacking space (pantry is quite small even since we redid the kitchen).

I ended up going with all Decor, then I picked the most practical shape (square) and went from there. Largest containers for sugar, flour etc, then more shallow for bicarb soda, custard powder etc. I then got some of the rectangle pouring shapes for cereals etc.

So far love it all - I just pull out the stack and get what I need. And because the shapes are the same and it's just the depths that are different, they don't always have to go back in the same order...

we lived in an area where mice were an issue, so everything is in containers - tupperware freak here! we have put everything in modular mates. we have quite a few larger containers that we randomly put bits and pieces in - but we essentially pulled everything out of the pantry one day, listed everything, what size container we needed, spoke to our friendly demonstrator (thanks Pandora!) and worked out the best way to do it. we were doing a massive order for us, so created a party just for us, and worked out the best way to get it. a little later, we worked out what we needed again (cos we realised there was soem stuff sharing containers that we just needed to have in their own containers) - and now as we realise we could use something else, we order more.

it's definitely not a cheap way to do things - but it's working brilliantly for us. we have a real mix of container sizes - and our panty is (mostly!) easy to navigate lol. we have a couple of under bed containers (the low plastic ones) that we store bags of things that don't fit in the containers, but that we always have on hand (extra bags of flower, rice, extra pasta etc) that sit in the bottom of the pantry - but everything else is tupperware modular mate stuff. everything that wasn't tupperware has now been removed (thanks for finally making daddy get rid of the other stuff poppet AKA pantry thief!)

Just thought I would add, I always justify the cost of tupperware to my DH in reminding him it has a 'lifetime warranty' (so will last forever, my mum still uses the stuff she bought before she ever had kids).

DH justifies the cost for me "welllll, if we get more tupperware, i can put those other containers in the filing cabinet in the shed so the nails/screws/some other random thing aren't loose anymore" lol

another tupperware addict....i got one of the modular mates sets when i had a party. they seem to have them as a host special or special party price quite often. love, love, love them! i find they're pretty good for what i wanted to store & the demonstrator was able to tell me what size is suitable for diff things (so i told her that i usually bought 1kg packs of flour & she could tell me which size). i think t/ware also offer a service where they'll come to your home & help you revamp your pantry - create a list of what you'd need to sort things out.

it is expensive but i can't fault it. the quality just seems so much better than anything else i've bought in the past.

Complete Tupperware freak over here as well *raises hand*

I spent $2000 on Tupperware when we moved into our house

I dont think we have any plastic ware in our house now that isnt Tupperware! Its exxy to get started but even if you just start with a Modular Mate set and then add from there. Def agree with hosting a party, I got about $400 worth of free stuff when I had a big party.
