Where to stay in Melbourne?

We're heading down to Melbourne, mainly to see the Tutankhamen exhibition, also visit family and do the 'tourist' things like the zoo. We'd like to be central - Any ideas or suggestions on where to stay with a 4 year old and almost 3 year old? TIA!!

Novotel are family friendly and often have deals where kids stay free. Also look up Punt Hill apartments, there are a few in the CBD.

we usually have a look at the 'stayz' website as they often have 3 bedroom houses or flats for the same price as a night in a hotel. Often the owners will do a package for a longer stay.
