    Wahu swim vests?

Has anyone used a Wahu swim vest on their toddler? Would you recommend them?

My sister gave one to DD for Christmas and it fits her now but as we haven't used it yet, I'm not sure whether to take it on our holiday or not (we leave Tuesday). I would have like to have tested it out beforehand. It won't take up much room in out case but it'll be a nuisance if it's not a winner.

DD turns 2 in a week and loves the water. Should we take the vest or just get her a pair of arm floaties?

If it doesn't take much room in your case I'd take it. And try in the bath first! lol. I haven't got it, but I would think it would be safer as it stays on but the floaties might come off? Just my thought Have fun on your holiday!

I'm really interested to hear peoples thoughts on this too. We're also going on holidays and I'm tossing up what to buy. ds uses the arm floaties at swimming lessons (the hard foam type) so we were wondering if we should buy those, or a vest.

I asked the swimming teachers and one said it doesn't matter, as long as it keeps them floating, the other said the arm floaties because the vests keep them totally upright which can be frustrating if they are trying to dog paddle. On the other hand she said the vests are good because their arms are free, so who knows!

    Have a fantastic holiday!

Yes, we have one for DS, we got it when he was 2 - we have a pool - it's great, keeps him afloat and is secure (does up under their crotch so can't come off) and just makes me feel more confident when it is just me and both the kids in the water. However, I did read on here (I think) that a swimming teacher didn't like them as the kids didn't learn to swim as quick (or something to that effect). But for us, it has been great!

My son has one and he loves it, has developed his own way of swimming and is very independent in the water, he insists on swimming on his own.

That said, I have to get him into swimming lessons so he learns to swim properly. He was in lessons but hated it and would completely freak out so we decided to ignore technique and just have fun and build confidence which the wahu gave him. But he's almost 3.

Thanks heaps girls! We'll pop it in the case then!

DD is very confident in the water and did really well at swimming lessons before we had to stop due to my MS with this pregnancy We have a floaty ring but she was 'too independent' for it last time we took her swimming (around 18 months) so I think she'll be well and truly past it now! The vest sounds like the way to go.

Thanks again! Two more sleeps and 'Great Barrier Reef, here we come!'

I have one each for my three older kids and we love them. I have found that all of them have taken a bit of time to get used to them and DD1 and DS1 now use them okay. Before they were about 2 and a half, they didn't like them that much and preferred a small swim ring. DD2 isn't really into hers yet, though we do give her a go with it for a few minutes every time we swim.

Hi, we have one for DS and it is great, doesn't bother him at all to wear it and it gives me a bit of added reassurance when he wants to try and be independent in the water
    HAve a great holiday
