Seriously need to know what to do?!?!

Ok so I have 4wks till bub #3 I should have started with DD2 and we want to put her on them too, brought my last box of buggies today! So freaking expensive!!!! So what do I do? Where do I start??
I really don't want to b paying $20-30 a nappy and have looked at how cheap you can get them on eBay but if I'm looking at full time nappies that need to last maybe I need to spend that much? What about DD2, she is full time nappies and a pretty big wetter, I suppose tho I change her 4-5 times a day? I think, so how many would I need for her? Should I buy cheaper ones for her day time and expensive for night? And then there's washing them, seriously do I have to wash them every day? Errrrrr I'm feeling a tad overwhelmed by starting this is it worth it? I hate needing a box of huggies every 3-5wks it's a waste...

Ps, dnt want 2nd hand ones, want nice pretty girly patterns.... Gimme every detail you can! TELL me what I need to do?!???? PLLLEEAASE

If you won't buy any second hand then I am afraid $20-30 is what you will be paying! lol
The China Cheapies are really not reliable, often ill-fitting, and based solely on your screen name, I can guarantee you, they won't fit with your ethos.

Take a look at the Nappy Network (.org) (google it) there is all the info you need to get started there.

Your best bet will most likely be a value pack from Baby BeeHinds, Itti Bitti or Bum Genius, all of which have a One Size Fits Most adjustable nappies, although they will undoubtedly be too big for your newborn for the first few months.

Your other option is old school flannelette flats and terry flats, and covers. Super easy really, cheap, and you can pick up covers fairly cheaply.

On another note, if you do decide to take second hand, there are TONNES of bargains to be had, there is a FB group dedicated to MCN onselling with over 5000 members.

Thanks for the info, I'll google that! Maybe I'll check the FB page out then... I was worried the china cheapies would b cr@p!! So if they dnt fit a new born what do you do?

There are specifically sized newborn nappies out there - Bubblebubs do amazing nappies, among others.
But mostly, we tend to use flats on the NBs - you change them so often that it is just easier, you don't need quite as much absorbency because (with BF bubs anyway) most nappy changes are dirty too, so flats do a great job, dry easily and you can have stacks othem on hand quickly.
I wash every second day usually, or if we have had lots of nappy free time, then every third day.

Check out Elimination Communication too - esp if you don't want the cost of nappies at all

What r flats? I dnt mind washing every 2nd day, tht sounds reasonable. I looked at a friend FB pages to find some Aussie MCNs and so cute! But $27?? I'm worried about the outlay! But I suppose reselling won't b an issue? What's the FB page? I cnt find it... Off to search the MCN stuff first, might start the EC research wen I'm up all hours BFing... Too much information to cram in my head!!!!

Flats are the old school cloth nappies, the ones you pin (or use those Snappi things on)

I might use my clothies this week, we're almost out of disposables and I'm not sure I've left myself enough to buy another pack of the ones we like

    Ok, some numbers for you...

Using basic cloth, for ONE child, you will save around $2500 on nappies. So they are CHEAPER over the average 2.5 years your child will be wearing nappies for. that is Full time usage, washing every second day.

On average, using MCN adds SEVEN - 7 - minutes to your day - that is washing, sorting, drying, folding. It is nothing, seriously. You will not even notice the difference.

If you want the pretty, you gotta pay for it, but even then, it is STILL cheaper to use cloth - that includes initial outlay, water, electricty for washing, everything - than using disposable nappies.

To make ONE disposable nappy takes 1 CUP of crude oil

Disposable nappies take around, they believe 400-700 years to break down. Which means, every. single. nappy. ever. used. is STILL sitting in a landfill somewhere.

Your weekly rubbish will more than halve.

You definitely get what you pay for. And if you want the pretties youre gonna have to pay!
Also wanted to add, before buying bulk packs of a certain nappy, get one or two and have a test run with them. Nappies are like a pair of awesome fitting jeans, what works great on you might be crap in me!

Also, for newborn there is also the option of prefolds

def check out the FB page as well - i sold some MCNs on there (and have on here as well in the past) that hadn't even been used - just washed. and they were far less than buying them new. so you can get some good bargains for either very lightly used or not used at all

Hey Organic girl, (love your username) From when ds was 2 weeks I used bamboo prefolds (some terry and some fleece) with a microfleece stay dry liner on top in Newborn size Baby Beehinds covers which I found was the cheapest way for us and they are quicker to dry than all in one MCN's. I had every colour cover, some people suggested that you only needed a few covers but I liked having heaps so that I could use 4-5 a day, they are no hassle washing and drying so I liked to change them often. I also got a few cushi tooshies which a cute minki ones and I bought about 18 of the cheapies from ebay (the china ones). They fit ds really well, I love the bright colours and we haven't had any leaks. They didn't fit well until about 6 months but up until 4 months he fitted into the prefolds and NB size covers anyway so we had a month or so in spossies while he grew into them. I can also put the bamboo prefold in them instead of the microfibre boosters if I want more absorbency. I still have ds in a huggies overnight and I'll often put one on him when we go out but come summer he'll be in nothing but a cute as MCN all the time as he shakes his little tooshie around the neighbour hood

Ohhhhh so much to think about!! Thanks for all your input!!! Happy to keep hearing pals recommendations...

We've been talking and are thinking we'd hate to get 12mths dwn the track and for the cheapies to give way but ate thinking of buying a few to use on dd2 in the day time, it sounds like a lot of ppl mix them up a bit... I found a lovely lady on FB who does GORGEOUS patterns so they're EXTEEEEMLY tempting!!!! I agree it's what you pay for so will have to look at a couple of second handies too!!!!! It's just the outlay when were so tight ATM! Bit dh said he'll just try get a few cash jobs before bubs comes!!!

If you use terry/flanno flats then you can buy very nice covers which aren't as exy and get multiple use before washing (excepting poosplosions). If you're planning more than the three, then you'll save with nappies.
