what do you eat, when you first start to eat again, (after severe and lengthy gastro)

    without making yourself sick again?

i'm so sick of water crackers and sultana bread (along with that incredibly sickly Hydrlite stuff that i've been sipping).

got sick Monday night, it's now Saturday late afternoon, i'm STARVING, (lost 6kg this week, virtually lived in toilet room), but scared whatever i eat will make me ill again. I've been ok since about 6.30am this morning.

The most exciting food i've had this week, is a few tiny slices of sultana bread.

I'm so hungry, would love to hear your ideas.

I will find it hard to buy another supermarket roast chicken methinks, that is what i was eating MOnday night, when this all kicked off.

(found it very hard to work out WHERE in the forum to put this question, so mods, feel free to file elsewhere).

I was told carbs. So plain toast, white rice, plain potatoes. Not too exciting, but better than water crackers!

I usually try to rehydrate with powerade too.

Oh you poor thing, it soumds awful.

And believe it or not, I just ate some supermarket cooked chook straight outa the microwave

Can you try some toast with Vegimite

Chicken noodle soup (remove the noodles)

Cooked rice with soy sauce for flavour

After suffering with vomiting from MS for the past 6 weeks - I sorta know how you feel - so I would open the cupboard and see if there was anything that took my fancy and try it ??

I mashed pumpkin and potatoe and kept that down

Even Icy Poles to have a pleasant taste in your mouth helps

I would go with some clear soup, chicken noodle as suggested above or similar. Sweet biscuits are a favourite of mine after a period of gastro, a chocolate chip cookie can do wonders without upsetting your stomach.

For me the one thing I need after gastro are red rooster chips! Must be a combo of carbs and salt

banana's are great - helps bind you up and a great energy source.

    otherwise toast.

    wheetbix

    soup

you could try some boiled rice (plain)

Be careful with powerade/gatorade/myzone drinks as they can actually cause the runs.

Avoid dairy, except for small amounts of yoghurt, because you can develop an intolerance to it when your gut is inflamed.

Maybe try to get a bit of protein along with the starchy carbs, like an egg. Also a bit of vegemite toast will put roses in ya cheeks again.

hope you're feeling better soon. It sounds like it was a shocker

jelly fruits were what I had a lot of when getting over my gastro as well as toast and vegemite...boring but it's best to take it slow whilE your stomach heals.

I'd probably steer clear of the sultanas, tbh mate. You want to stay away from really fibrous stuff. I was always told if it's white it's probably alright! So like others have said, carbs are the go. Rice, potato, white bread, bananas, chicken. Hope you are doing much better soon.
