Question Should it be spreading so quickly?

I have posted about nappy rashes quite a few times. Its been a never ending battle for us but this time i'm beginning to think there is something much nastier behind it.

It started off with a red dots, so i cleaned it and put some cream on it - thinking it was just a normal nappy rash. Next nappy change had DD screaming hysterically we had to hold her down and clean it and put her steroid cream as well as barrier cream. Over night it seemed to clear up. Then her second change today it had spread right across her 'lady bits' so again i cleaned it and put cream back on. The next change which was only an hour later it had spread across her bottom - it was blistered and bleeding. I kept the nappy off, she even had a nap with it off so spent a good 3 hours nappy free. I had to go to work so put cream and a new nappy on.

DP called me at 8:30 saying that rash is now going up her inner thighs. Its now just a big red rash that is swollen and bleeding. I suggested to not use the steroid cream and possibly its fungal so to put her fungal cream on and see how she goes.

Shes currently sleeping but i am wondering, does a fungal rash spread that quickly? what else could it be? Diet related???

We are off to the doctors again tomorrow and will demand something extra be done, and a better solution be made as i hearing and seeing my baby in so much pain breaks my heart. I sit there and cry with her

Oh and before i forget, she is teething but has had no temperatures and has no other symptoms other than a horrible nasty rash.

What kind of nappies does she wear? It sounds like an allergy.

I'd be thinking nappy as well... With both my DD's if I put huggies on them within an hour they would be red raw. I only did it twice for both to realise that something had to change. Look into what nappy rash cream you are using as well (can I ask why a steriod one???) something with zinc is good.

I got the steroid cream when she had a reoccurant rash and it would clear it up within a few hours but it seems to be making no difference or making it worse.

I would stop using it, unless directed by the Dr, this rash could be different to last times one. and I would seriously change the nappy. Like i said in my previous post, huggies always sent my kids red raw.

DD breaks out in a terrible rash if she wears huggies....
I'd be taking her to the doctor asap and demand something be done.

    Good luck.

Stop using the steroid cream. Steroid cream should be used very sparingly and no more than 2-3 days in a row.

It definitely sounds fungal. She needs to see a doctor first thing tomorrow so its great that you are taking her. It would probably be quite painful as well so I would maybe even give her some panadol and try and change her nappy during the night.

    HTH.

I'm hoping she's better soon. Nothing works for DS's nappy rash except for constant hourly changes, and even then it only goes away to a redness

Poor baby. Could you try cloth nappies for a week or so to see if it makes a difference? you can get a pack of flat nappies from Target for about the price of a pack of disposables.

Luckily the weather is warming up too- try lots of nappy free time.

This morning the rash does look a little better so i have put more fungal cream on and will see what it looks like in about an hour. It was spreading very quickly yesterday so if it gets worse i will go straight to the drs.

I will be looking into cloth nappies

Hoping it's better this morning. I'd be really cautious about using the steroid creams. Over use, over time can cause the skin to thin and basically break down layer by layer (in extreme cases I believe the damage can be irreversible), and the more often you use it the stronger strength you need. Personally, I would only be applying it to my LO under the direction of a doctor when they have identified that it is appropriate to the rash.
