Help! What can I use as a substitute for soy flour?

Want to bake some banana biscuits with some overripe bananas but the recipe calls for soy flour. I have none.

    Any ideas re: substitutes??

I have some chickpea flour (besan). Will that be okay???

    Thanks in advance

I reckon it would be - or I'd try arrowroot if I had it. So saying, some of my recipes come out disastrously lol... So whether you should trust my advice is debatable! GL!

Do do you have any rice flour? On the rice flour box at the supermarket, they have a recipe that uses a combination of arrowroot flour and rice flour.
Otherwise I think the chickpea flour would work.

    Thanks.

I have a little bit of rice flour. No arrowroot though

Substituting soy is a PITA. I won't use the stuff. Anyhow, does the recipe have to be gluten free? Could you make something with normal flour? Bean can be quite strong tasting, but then so are bananas so it may be ok.

I always just try and see if it works. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't

I'm pretty sure you can use cornflour instead of arrowroot.

Apparently chickpea flour is good for pizza bases. Not sure why. I have been experimenting with flour lately due to an elimanation diet for my DS2. I am still very green in the experimenting, a little bit longer and I may have been more help.
ETA: In the reading I have you only need 90g of rice flour, you could try a combination of the rice flour and corn flour if you have any.

I've just been researching. Apparently chickpea flour can be a substitute for soy flour, as they are both protein flours and have strong tastes.

Dont hold me to it though

    I'm holding you to it

Eta: chickpea flour is great and pretty much the lowest carb flour you can get. I use it all the time for savoury stuff. Never tried it for pizza bases.

L&B - I am not so concerned about gluten. Just low gi carbs

Ok, well now I want the recipe.

You could get a TMX and make your own chickpea flour......

And the other thing is they're both a legume flour so subbing besan for soy makes more sense I think than using rice, corn or arrowroot.

That, and I trust L&B's kitchenly knowledge

I'm not the one in the house you need to convince

I have never made them before. Will let you know how they turn out.

I did just make ricotta passionfruit muffins which are yummy! They have a cup of wholemeal flour though...

Oh dear, you're in trouble then! I know some of my family members would laugh themselves silly if they read that

    The legume explanation makes sense.
