We are looking at schools for our DD next year (eeekkk!). She'll be starting prep in VIC.
One of the schools we are looking at uses the Walker learning approach and another is planning on implementing it in the next few years. I've done a little reading on it and it really appeals to me on paper but I'm just wondering if anyone can please share any/thoughts experiences with it please? I'm going to tour the school next week so I want to be prepared! TIA!!
Hi hun!!!! I haven't taught at a school with it but know a teacher who uses it and will contact her for you when I getback babe! it's apparantly awesome!!!
I have not experienced it as my girls are pre-school, but I do know Kathy Walker IRL and I absolutely admire her. I have attended a few of her seminars as well and they were really inspiring.
I would definitely think positively about anything she is involved in.
Tan that would be awesome, thanks hun! I'll PM you the name of the school in case that helps.
Jackrose, thanks hun I didn't know she does seminars
Dianne if you google it you'll find the official website with quite a bit of info
Loula thanks darl, good to hear your SIL is impressed. I don't know anyone with direct experience with it so thanks for that!
LOVE IT!!! Our local school does it as does the school we sent DD too, but not to the same degree as our local, I think you're near me so pm me if you want!!
Our school implements her approach to a degree and I have been to a few of her talks. I really loved her no nonsense approach and is not afraid to be straight with you. Google WLA and Early Life foundations for some great background reading.
Given that learning is a life long journey and really to be successful as an adult you need to be motivated and self directed I think this approach will really help prepare the kids. I have been blown away at how my little prep has been investigating different topics, following different tangents and then reflecting upon what she has learnt. The kids seem so excited and keen to get going and the teachers are amazing at dissecting the different topics and stretching the kids out.
