    What to do ???

DS 2.5 has been toilet training now for a couple of weeks and it is all going very well. Having a lot of accident free days and he knows when he needs to go and is telling us so all good. When he tells me and we are running to loo I tell him to hold and he can mainly do so but not always. So all happy days really pleased how it is going

However we are now having to fly back to Ireland tonight as my father is terminally ill and docs think he will only last a few days. DS and DH are coming with me. What should i do on the plane during his awake time. Flight is at 9.10pm tonight and guess he will pretty much crash out when the plane takes off so he will be in nappy then like normal bed time but what do you think we should do for the rest of the journey. It will take approx 24 hours. Just keep him in nappies as accident on plane would be too difficult or chance it and put his pants on? Either way we can ask him when he needs to go and take him to loo on plane (which he will probably be obsessed with anyway) but you know what loos can be like for people waiting!

Anyones thoughts? I am thinking pull ups and then take him to loo when he wants to go?

    Anyone have better idea?

    Cheers

Sorry to hear about your dad

I think you've probably got the best solution to use pull ups just in case. Especially considering the ratio of people to toilets on planes!

The only other thing would be a potty, but crowded planes aren't great for privacy and I know my DS would never have used it in front of strangers do

We flew not long after each of my DDs was TT'd. DD1 especialy was devastated initially to be back in a nappy, but I told them both that I knew how clever they were at using the toilet but that plane toilet rooms were very tiny but the toilets were big and their toilet seat wouldn't fit them, there were lots of people using them so maybe they could wear a pull up "just in case". They were both fine with it, and neither had a wet nappy, but it was so much easier than worrying about getting a LO into those tiny toilets on a regular basis to make sure we didn't get caught short IYKWIM. Given the length of time you're travelling for I would definitely go with the pull ups/nappies but still give him the opportunity of using the toilet.

I'm very sorry about your dad.

So sorry to hear about your dad hun

If your more comfortable using a pull up then do that hun and like Lulu said you can always take him to the toilet regularly too. Our last flight with DS we kept him in jocks and made sure we took him regularly. It was only a 6hr flight so obviously much shorter than your flight. On our flight home DS said he had to go NOW and there was a bit of a queue for the toilet so DH just asked the few people waiting if we could go first. I think you'll find most people are pretty accomodating when it comes to newly toilet trained toddlers so you could always do that if absolutely necessary!

Sorry to hear about your father.

I think pull ups would be the way to go. Explain to your DS what's happening and still try to make regular toilet trips (well as much as you can on a plane)

sorry to hear about your dad.

You know what I would havea chat to your ds about it. When you get on the plane, show him the toilet (afterall it may freak him out and he may not want to use it). Then if he wants to try undies, then maybe think about taking him every hour, that way its not like he is deperate for the loo. Take him after he eats and has a big drink just in case etc.Take heaps of pull ups on with you just in case. He may do really well and be really proud of himself, or he may want the security of the nappy.

Just adding, speaking from experience make sure you have a complete change of clothes for both you and your DH - or at least shirts if space is an issue. Both my girls have on occasion been sick on planes and there's nothing worse than sitting there for 10 hours being unable to avoid the smell of vomit all over you.
