Is it presumptuous to offer to take over organising a school entry into a sporting event?
My boys are keen to compete in the snow-sports inter-schools this year (mainly so they can prance around in the bibs). You can't enter as an individual, you have to enter as a school. I have asked the sports co-ordinator at our school and since this is her first year in the role she hasn't done it before although the school has entered before.
I've been giving her email addresses and so on to help her out but she is really busy (she's the librarian as well) and I'm starting to feel like I'm harassing her. If I offer to take over and do it all myself would that be rude? If she does it this year she will know how to do it in future which might be a positive for her.
Just. Do. It. She will likely be grateful for the help and if she's not, tough. Your kids will love it and others at the school might also be interested.
As a teacher who has just picked up PE and having not done the role before I would LOVE someone to do something like that for me! Chances are she is run off her feet with all the other stuff she has to do so having some help would be ace! Just keep touching base with her about requirements the school has around first aid, teachers attendance, timetable changes etc.
I am involved as a volunteer with a non-profit organisation. I can very firmly say that nothing is more irritating than someone who has lots of great ideas but wants me to do everything. We are always suggesting that people take on their ideas and run with them. If I were her I would be very grateful if you suggested that you organise it. She may just not want to ask you.
I volunteer for a librarian and know how flat out she gets !! So definitely just ask her if you're certain she likes the idea. Can't see there being an issue considering the school has done it before.
No way!! A lot of the sport that is done in our school for all the inter-schools competitions are partly organised by parents. Especially when it comes to football or a sport that is outside the skill set of the teachers. They are more than happy to have someone come into the school who is willing to give up their time and help out. I think that's a great thing you want to do - if it wasn't for you they probably wouldnt' do it.
You'd probably make her day. Maybe she doesn't know the ski from the binding and it's all a bit overwhelming. I'm sure she'd appreciate you lightening her workload.
