    Lamb shanks and ?????

We're having rosemary and garlic slow cooked lamb shanks tonight because there's snow in the air and it's DH's favourite.

I'm in the mood for something new to go with them.
    Any ideas? Recipes?

    Hit me.

    I love lamb shanks!! Yummo.
I usually have them with mashed potato, steamed veggies like beans/broccoli/carrots.
How about some creamy garlic mash? Or polenta might be yum!

Creamy mash sounds delightful but it might be carb overload. Low carb is better

Yum! Lightly pan fried polenta fingers and some form of salad would be awesome! I'm into goats cheese ATM so that would be in my salad

We do pumpkin-everything here because we're on a low-starch diet. So pumpkin mash? Otherwise cauliflower mash is delish. Roasted cauliflower (cauliflower popcorn) is awesome. I love green beans boiled in bone broth but you probably already have gravy from the shanks so just steamed beans?

I often just roast up some butternut pumpkin, beetroot, onion & cauliflower then have some greens. Clearly it's ground hog day around here! But it's yummy

mmmmmm caulifower - cauliflower gratin?? It's so good but so fattening. and pumpkin......

I'm not good with polenta. It's like risotto - it just never works our right for me.

Almond green beans are yummy! Mashed or roasted sweet potato. Sauteed asparagus with butter or olive oil. Cheesy cauli and broccoli.

Actually no, fat isn't fattening so long as it's natural fat (so butter and cream are a-okay) and you stear clear of the carby things like polenta, potatoes, cous-cous, pasta etc.

When the only exercise you've done for a day is a body balance class and a 400m walk everything is fattening

I don't think you can go past potato mash with shanks, but if you want a healthier option how about cauliflower mash, or a cauliflower and parsnip puree?

You really need something of a mash like consistency to squish all those yummy juices into.

I was gonna say cauliflower puree! It's one of my favourites! Or sweet potato puree. Or a vegetable medley puree.

OR roasted cauliflower YUM! Or a roast veg medley like cauliflower, brocolli, spanish onion, carrot, sweet potato, lemon, garlic little bit of parmesan at the end when it comes out...

    Rosemary infused dumplings... Mmmm

    1 cup self raising flour
    50g butter
    1/3 cup milk
    Chopped fresh rosemary

Combine flour and butter by rubbing together until mixture resembles bread crumbs. Add rosemary. Add milk and mix to form a dough. Roll into balls (makes around 12) and put into the lamb shank casserole for the last 15 mins of cooking time and let them rise and soak up some of the sauce. Mmmmmm soooooo good!!
