Help! I need ideas to push past my weight loss plateau.

As I've said in the title, I need fresh ideas as to how I can move past my plateau.

Besides the occasional mess-up my diet is pretty good. I've lost 20kgs (with a lot more to lose) and so far, my mind set is pretty much in the right place. What I haven't really done is introduce exercise. I know this is what I need to do, but I dont know where to start.

I've thought about joining a gym, but I work FIFO, so two weeks out of the month, I wont use it. I am the type of person who needs more than just exercising at home.

What do you ladies do? Do you have PTs? Go to classes or a gym? Are there things that I can 'join' given my limited fitness that will get me out and about?

I am currently away for work and want to have my exercise plan ready for when I get home.

I look forward to your ideas!

I haven't done it myself but I know a few people who have had great results with Michelle Bridges 12 week challenges.

I go to the gym and I couldn't be without it. Have remote is your FIFO location? Is there no gym provided by the company?

My gym lets you take breaks for holidays etc and puts the time on the end of the contract. I belong to one of the chain gyms so I can often use it on holiday as well.

Couch to 5km? It's downloadable app that tells you when to run and when to walk.

A PT might be more flexible and it probably wouldn't cost more than gym memberships.

My old gym that I was at when I was at uni had 10 and 20 visit passes so you could just visit casually.
Some gyms let you do classes and/or workout on a casual basis but others charge like a wounded bull for casual visits. You could check all your local gyms to see what their membership/casual options are.

Not sure if you have any at home, but the Active 24 Hour gym near my old place in Perth has an option specifically for FIFO, where they will only charge you the weeks you are home, you give them your roster and they work it out. You can only use it while you are home and can't use it on an of week if you happen to be home.

Kimmi ring around to the gyms. My hubby is fifo and I know a few of them do discounted rates for fifo workers because you only use it half the time.

I run - started with the C25K program which is awesome, and now I am running 4-6kms every few days and aiming to do a 10 km run in October. Even walking 40-1 hour every second day will boost your metabolism. I also use dvds, Jillian Michaels ones are awesome - Ripped in 30 and 30 day shred are great - they are quick 20 min sessions or Extreme Shed and Shred is great - that is a 30 or 60 min one. Really good and all you need are some hand weights.

Sorry Onxy, I should clarify, there are things here available when I'm away, I just didn't want to pay top dollar for a gym in brisbane that I'm not going to use all the time.

My work is extremely male dominated, so I am kind of discouraged from going to the gym here (my own insecurities).... I've been walking around camp here, and thats helping.

Im needing something that gives me support, in a comfortable environment. Has anyone done curves?

I'm a member at Fernwood and whilst it is more expensive than lots of gyms it is also the most supportive gym I've belonged to. Probably not what you're looking for unless you can negotiate a FIFO contract with them.

A PT will come to you and work out in the park but then again you miss out on the peer support that you get at a gym.

Can you put in a request that part of your gym at work is made into a women's only space? It's pretty common at gyms these days, even the mixed gyms often have an area that is set aside for women.

There are definitely enough women here to justify a small space for us to privately work out in.

I'm looking at fernwoods website now, and it really is tempting.. Looks like an awesome environment!

I found a small private gym near me that does PT and some classes.... Lots of options. I'd love to get fit enough to join a team of some sort!
