ds2 has lost heaps of weight- mainly due to having tonsillitis, but also he just doesn't really seem to eat much anymore. he used to be a great eater and was a lovely chubby bubs, but these days, not so much. he looks so skinny to me, i'd love to fatten him up a bit. any ideas on how i can get some wight on him? thanks
Can you speak with your GP or health nurse about it?
Where is he roughly on the charts do you know?
I think things like full cream milkm cheese & yoghurt are good along with plenty of fruit & veg.
I have found that even though both of my girls have always been petite that DD1 looked slimmer around 2-3yrs old as she was a hell of a lot more active and it worried me as she was so little to start with but she actually had a decent growth spurt and evened out her height aswell so the MCHN had no issues with her weight at all. IYKWIM.
im actually taking him to the health nurse in a couple of weeks for his 3.5yo check up so i can talk to her about it then (along with a whole lot of other pressing issues).
i'm not sure what his height is, but he is quite tall and weighs about 18kg. i don't know where he is on the charts- i guess i could measure his height and work it out?
It could just be that his how he is IYKWIM? Fast metabolism?
Does he eat a good diet? I guess all you can do is try to get a good balanced diet into him. My DS seems to go through phases with eating. Some weeks he eats like a horse and others he seems to survive on air only. He has just turned 3 and weighs 17kg.
Incorporate high calories foods into his diet. Cheese, milks, yoghurts, have a google of what foods are high calorie.
My DD was sick earlier this year, and didn't put weight on for months. She was frail, weak and looked ill. She had a Staph infection in her digestive tract.
Since then, she's fluttered between being a good eater and a fussy eater, BUT has put on 3 kg's and now weighs 16kg. Finally, she's moving into the next clothes size. We've spent 9-12 months in size 2 clothes now, bring on the 3's!!
Follow your instinct, do something to his diet if you think it's necessary. xx
I think his weight sounds fine. My DS1 is 4 and he weighs around 17kg, my DD is 5 1/2 and weighs about 18-19kg. I don't think he sounds under weight, or skinny. Though I suppose it would depend on his height.
G, I don't think it would matter what you did, he's probably always going to be a lean bean I think the worry sets in when you see how different the two boys are. I was the same with L and E - L was a great lump of a kid like your L is, and E was always such a petite little thing, but still perfectly average kwim? Average height and average weight. It was just that I was used to L being soooo big, that when E wasn't you start to wonder if there's something going on. But then I had P who was soooo tall and skinny and I was *meh* about it then. Heck, P was still wearing a size 00 skirt when she was well over 3 LOL and it was only that it got too short for her that she stopped wearing it. And even now, for as tall as A is, he's a string bean with no ass to speak of to hold his pants up - the kid can still wear size 1 shorts for crying out loud and he eats like you wouldn't believe. All my kids have eaten full fat everything, it's just that they are skinny like DH was as a kid and L will be a bit heavier like my side of the family
My DD2 is 4.5 and weighs 12kgs at the moment - she's lost just under 2kgs with being sick over the last few months but even at 15kgs she's still a little flea. At her "normal" weight I still have moments of worry that she is too light. I've spoken to her paed about it a few times and he repeatedly assures me that she is active, alert and intelligent, and that she is just a little person and perfectly healthy. I've asked about changing her diet (she gets full fat dairy etc) but he says there's no need.
Its reassuring that I have an expert tell me that medically she's fine, but I still can't help but worry about my little bag of bones at times
