    Can I take more Panadol?

    I have a massive headache (again ) that is making me feel really sick. So I took a maxalon and 2 panadol a few hours ago, all at once. Less than 5 minutes later, I vomited them and everything else in my stomach, back up.
    Since then my headache has gotten steadily worse.

    Can I take more or is the "dont re-take medications after vomiting" a blanket rule?

    How many hours ago hun?? If it was more than 2hours I would be taking 2 more but if you aren't sure or comfortable taking it, call Nurse on Call or a local chemist. I took some Telfast the other day that did bugger all then rang the chemist to see if I could take some more of a different one and it was fine. Do you have some Nurofen? You could definitely take some of that as well. xoxox Hope you are feeling better soon.

    You're fine to take more Panadol, you can take 2 every 4-6 hours. Honestly, if you're certain you threw them up 5 minutes after taking them, I would have taken another dose. Paracetamol is a dangerous drug if taken in overdose but the recommended dose is fairly conservative if used over 48 hours or less.

    How many mg of Maxalon did you take?

    Maxalon = 10mg

    Actually techincally its called metoclopramide (pramin). In case that makes a difference.

    Metoclopramide is the generic name for Maxalon (as paracetamol is to panadol).

    I'm pretty sure it's qid, or 4 times daily (so the same as panadol) usually. What does it say on your box?

    I'd probably wait half an hour. Then it would be 5 hours, and since you vomited it up you should be OK. That said I wouldn't be taking anymore than the three doses it specifies in that 5pm-5pm window. It really should be taken 8hourly.
    Can you get DF to ring Nurse on call to see what they say?

    Ill just end up talking to them myself. He never knows how to answer thier questions on my behalf or communicate what I need to know. Bit thick sometimes. Esp with medical stuff. He has no idea. Ill call if it gets worse, but thinking ill go to bed. Managed to keep panadol in. Just. Have had a few moments but so far its still there.

    Hi Calluna, I'm a pharmacist. If you have vomited up your tablets within minutes of swallowing them, I would suggest that there would be minimal absorption of the drugs into your bloodstream and you would be safe to have another dose straight away. So definitely take your paracetamol and metoclopramide now, and hopefully you'll get some rest and relief. (BTW you are perfectly correct to play it safe - if you had vomited any more than 15min after taking your tablets I'd say you'd have to leave it for a couple of hours, just to be sure)

    Only thing Im not sure of is, I didnt see them so cant be 100% I did. I vomited everything else I had eaten in the last 5 hours though. Didnt think of checking before I flushed
