    Question I'm a little suss...

I was just talking to ex. Interesting convo.

His gf has just had a baby. Only a few weeks ago. I was going on about CSA (for fun, yanno) & he said something about putting his tax in this year, coz he wants to go to NZ in a couple years, but can't if he gets done for tax evasion.
I told him he has a baby... he's going to have to do it anyway. I mentioned that she'd need it done for her supp payments & kinda maybe pushed it by saying he'd need it done if she wanted BB & any c'link payments.

He told me she's going to be working & won't be claiming payments... 1, BS. 2, BS. 3, BS!!! What about BB I ask, 5 grand... 'nah, she doesn't want it'.

So... am I right that claiming FTB etc isn't really a choice? You might not be elegable for payments, but a child still needs to be listed with them doesn't it? And why on earth would you not claim???? They're not on big money & are seasonal workers!

So I'm suss. I think she's claiming PPS & he was trying to get around telling me.

Anyone else think its odd? Or am I odd? I just want him to finally pay something!

Report them. Sounds like they're up to something dodgy.

There is no legal requirement to lodge and claim for FTB. But given the situation, I agree it sounds very dodgy. Jump online and put in a report that you suspect they are in a marriage like relationship but don't believe they've declared it.

I know it doesn't need to be done for FTB bg, he doesnt. I just wanted to see what he'd say.
I'll have a look when I get time.

Is there a chance she's an illegal immigrant or visa overstayer? It could be her trying to stay off the grid for some reason.

No, her mum is from nz, but she was born here as far as I know. And if not nz'ers have completely different rules. They can live here. She can claim FTB & bb if she's living here even if shes not a resident/citizen. Sil & her family are all nz'ers. You can't claim ppp, pps etc until you have residency, but FTB you can.

If it was as simple as she can't, there's no reason to lie IYKWIM.

yeah the nz thing doesn't come into it, especially if she was born here.

they'd have to be earning over 100k a year, with her getting over 24k to make it not worth claiming at all - from what you've said in the past, that doesn't sound likely - so there is definitely something amiss.
