    Pancakes, crepes or waffles? Discuss

I've finished eating waffles for the second day in a row, as it's still pancake day somewhere Actually, I had left over batter from yesterday, as DS cracked it before I could finish cooking them. Anyway...

We received a waffle iron as a Christmas present and I love it. I'm convinced waffles are better than pancakes. I love the texture, the crispness, the way maple syrup becomes trapped in the holes. They take a little more preparation than pancakes. Apparently, the secret to good waffles are more fat in the batter, separating the eggs and folding in egg white at the end, and keeping them in a warm oven whilst cooking the rest, so they don't get soggy.

The batter I made this time was a gluten free, dairy free Quirky Cooking recipe, prepared the night before which stood as room temperature percolating. I served then with berries, gallons of maple syrup and coconut yoghurt. Yummy!

    What's your preference?

Home made pancakes. I adapt a weight watchers recipe and make sure the batter sits for 30 mins before I use it.

    I've actually never had waffles!

It depends here. DH prefers pancakes (his own buttermilk recipe) and I prefer crepes. So we alternate. Toppings are usually butter, maple syrup, sometimes some icecream, and bacon. Always bacon.

    Depends what with!!

Waffles with ice cream, caramelized banana, caramel sauce and bacon.
Pancakes with whipped cream and strawberries.
    Crepes with lemon and sugar.

    DP does the cooking

That's like asking pork roast, bacon or ham! They are practically the same but taste equally good for different reasons. I love good waffles with ice cream and hot fudge sauce. I love my pancakes with bacon and maple syrup. I love savoury and sweet crepes. And crepe cake is to die for. So is pancake cake for that matter oh and I make a waffle pudding too. Yum.

Depends on who's cooking, what the toppings are, when I'm eating them (ie breakfast or dessert) and what mood I'm in.

I've never made my own waffles (looks too hard for a morning job!).

I tend to prefer thick hot cake type pancakes at breakky time because they're so easy to make, I can hide banana in there for DS, use Wholemeal flour, no sugar and put on more toppings (and syrup) to keep me fuller for longer. Oh, and with bacon and maple syrup is the best!

But latelyDH has been making awesome crepes, which are a new fave of DS', so we've been having lots of crepes with lemon and sugar for breakky. Don't get me wrong, I love them, but they don't keep me full for long and they do feel more 'desserty' than 'breakfasty'. Growing up, we always had thin pancakes for dessert (not crepes, just thin pancakes iykwim).

    ^lol!

I'm the same, I love all of them. I think though... if I really had to choose, fresh made waffles. Not made previously then heated up. They have to be fresh, crispy and fluffy. Soooo good.

Whichever DH makes for me. I will eat all three. I'm a great wife like that.

Crepes at home with lemon and sugar only!

Crepes from Choix in the CBD with Tandoori Chicken, yoghurt and cucumber for lunch (todays lunch in fact), my friend had one with ham, cheese, mushroom, spinach and mayo and it was beautiful.

Pancakes at the Pancake Parlour with butter and maple syrup.

And to add to it if I may, Pikelets (type of pancake) like my Mum used to make with jam and cream or just plain old butter.

I did have the most divine Ricotta pankcake at Bill's in Sydney when my DH and I went for my 40th. It was pure decadency

I have fond memories of some Friday night dinners that consisted of waffles, golden syrup and icecream. Now I think about it, until recently I had only ever eaten my mother's waffles. My sister and I used to argue about who would get the waffle iron. Every time she visits she would try to take it, mum would not let her, even though she had not cooked them in years.

Don't think I can pick, they all have their place.

I don't know but I bet it involves layers.
