Does anyone make their own? What recipe do you use?
Kids use way too much to be buying it all the time. Especially if the s'market is out & the only other option is $10 a pack :/
No one?
Once, in Professional Cookery. Once done we were promptly told, "now you know how to make it, buy it! They make it cheaper and better!"
This is was the recipe with the block of butter that the pastry was wrapped around, then put in the fridge, taken out, beaten till flat, folded, put back in fridge, etc etc.
Shortcrust pastry would be cheap and easy but not puff pastry with all the butter and work involved.
Rough puff would be easier. I know Rouge has a good recipe.
If you use a lot of puff, you are not going to want to make it yourself, it's very time consuming and then you may not get it right. And it's more expensive to make than you'd think, all that butter!
I make rough pastry in a thermomix but you could do in food processor or by hand, I don't use lard, just butter
Maggie Beer has a shortcrust sour cream pastry which is the bomb!! What sort of things are you making with puff?
Kids just make pizza or cheese & vegemite scrolls. Haven't thought to try a different type of pastry tbh. But if it's that difficult, I'll leave it to the professionals![]()
I use a yoghurt dough for scrolls and pizza it's really easy and tastes good.
We use pizza dough for scrolls. Pretty cheap and easy to knock up if you have some kind of kitchen gadget that can knead (stand mixer, bread maker, thermomix etc)
Same, I use dough for scrolls, cheaper than using pastry
pita bread or muffin or crumpets can make great pizzas.
Scone dough can work well too.
Will give scone dough a go
Muffins etc are good & we've used them, but I'm looking for cheap options & where I am, they're anything but cheap![]()
