    cookware

What brands of cookware are good. I usually favour baccarat because it's the only brand I know. I want a new frypan and some more saucepans. I'm looking on ebay but I don't know what brands to look for.

Arcosteel or any other 18/10 grade stainless are good. I forget how the gradings work, but I just looked through my cupboards, and I have some saucepans and a frypan (Arcosteel) my Mum gave me, which are 18/10 and are really good quality.
Also, Bessemer is fabulous (cast aluminium I think). I bought a huge (you could probably put a large pizza in the bottom of it) Bessemer frypan (with just the moulded handles, not detattachable ones) and lid which is taller than the frypan from a garage sale for $5. Unfortunately, new, they are uber expensive, but at least you can pass them on to your children when you go 'cos I think they are that good. We cook heaps in it, I think I use it 9 out of 10 times that I cook, from sauces and stews to pancakes. I think they can go in the oven too, but not sure on that one. They are sometimes advertised on daytime TV, and I think they really are terrific. Out of interest, I'm going to look on ebay now and see what they are worth.

I have the full set of Bessemer, but am thinking of changing it to something made from cast iron as I'm not too sure about the safety aspect of aluminium

Scanpan are really good, they have a good warranty where they'll replace it. Myer have them on sale at the moment 30% off. We have had one of their frypans for about 15 years and its still great. We use it everyday.

I've had mine for 14 years. They are Raco and excellent and similar to baccarat but they aren't Oz made anymore.
Esteele are great. When I was working in Myer it would astound me what people would do to them, like bring them in burned black and they would get fixed up or replaced for free. Dunno if they still do that or not.
I'm thinking about getting some scanpan. I just can never afford one when my non stick pan dies and I end up getting another cheap one.
Nat If it's a sandwich base between stainless steel, then as there is no contact with the food it is fine. Is the aluminium just on the bottom or is the whole pan made from it?

Its cast aluminium construction?? Heres what they say:

Cookware by Bessemer is made of heavy cast aluminium for even heating and better heat retention. Designed for more nutritious and economical cooking.
It has a tritanium plus coating for non-stickiness (lol). Do you think that makes it okay, Sam? I think I just want a plain stainless steel set. My DH is going to kill me, lol.

    Dunno about that Nat?

I'd lurve LeCreuset but I've always been worried about lifting them. A full corning casserole is heavy enough.

Sammi, I actually use mine more on the stovetop than in the oven! I use it alot for risottos and things like that. It cooks so evenly, and slowly it's perfect!

It is very handy though for those dishes that you have to brown on the stove and then put in the oven.

I bought a whole set of anolon (8 piece) for $200 the other week

They also have the Anolon advance on sale at Victoria's basement

Not too bad, the pots are quite heavy which i think is good.
