    HCG Levels - Advice Please!

    Hi All

I know that this question has been posted before but I cant seem to log onto the Betabase website and I am going to drive myself nuts if I dont get some advice!

I have a DD nearly 4 and had a missed m/c at 8.5 weeks in early Feb. I am now 4 weeks and 4 days pregnant although have had very minimal symptoms which I was concerned about (just vivid dreams, weeing a fair bit and just getting a tiny bit of nause). So I asked my Ob if I could have a BT as hadnt had one from GP and yesterday at 4weeks 3 days it was 720. I am pretty sure that I 'o' at day 16 which might put things a bit out. With my DD at 3 weeks and 5 days my hcg was 217 (although I would have 'o'd' at day 11).

The Ob said it was low and that the BT on Saturday will be the deciding factor (whatever that means). Can anyone tell me how low these levels are? Is it likely that I am going to miscarry again? I wont get my results until Monday so I am quite worried - I'll be a basket case by Monday!

    Thanks very much

For an early pregnancy such as yours I disagree with your OB that it's low. My level at 4 weeks was 61. The reason your BT on Saturday would be the 'deciding factor' is that your OB will be looking to see that your levels are increasing appropriately (ie. doubling every 2-3 days). The increase in level is more important than the level itself as each person can vary quite a bit with their range at the same stage of pregnancy. My levels at 4 weeks 3 days was 216 so much lower than yours and pregnancy going fabulously. Try not to stress, your level looks just fine to me so far!

Hey Natty - I can understand your concern but until you get the results to the second blood test you really can't tell. My hcg at 4wks 5 days was 2467 and I ended up m/c. Basically what I am saying is that just because it's 'low' that doesn't mean that it's bad news.

Hey just found this in the 1st trimester section so that sounds like your levels are nothing to worry about!

Thank you soooo much for your advice and information. It makes me feel so much better. I know I have to see if it doubles by Saturday and I am concerned that I dont really have many pregnancy symptoms, but I do feel a lot more reassured knowing that I am not 'abnormal' and fit somewhere in the middle.

Jas - I couldnt get into the 1st trimester section. I wonder what I am doing wrong? It just comes up saying that there has been any discussion for 60 days...

    Thanks so much again

NATTY Your levels are perfect. I don't understand why your doctor would say they're low. Is it your normal doctor? I would see another one for your pregnancy if it is. What he means by saturday's one being the deciding factor is that if the hcg is rising like it should to show a viable pregnancy.

    These were my levels.

    15dpo 4w 1d 493
    17dpo 4w 3d 1087
    22dpo 5w 1d 8347
    24dpo 5w 3d 15220

    Hope this helps.

Natty are you from the US

the reason I ask is your levels sound more like US based levels, and how your OB can say they are low before doign a second I dont know :hugs: *fingers crossed* for nice doubling times and levels

    Thanks Rach and Georgi

Rach - I am from good old Perth, Western Australia. The Ob told me that the range for 3-5 weeks is 50 to 5000 (which is very different to the information that I have found and from what Jas posted on this thread!) and then said that for 4weeks 3days 720 is too low based on that range.

I guess I just have to wait and see what Monday brings.

    Thanks again

Natty - I know you have nothing to compare them with at the moment - but mine were 391 at 4w1d and 8579 (can't remember exactly already!!) at 5w1d.

Please put your mind at rest that your figure sounds just perfect at this stage!

That level is not low. Stop stressing. To give you an example I had a level of 21 which was considered positive at about 4 weeks - my doctor didn't even think it was low (just congratulated me) but I knew it was (from here) and I pushed for a second test which showed it had dropped to 11 (still positive) and then m/c a few days later at around 5 weeks. With this one I was over a thousand at about the same time so doc thought it might be twins, but is only a singleton. It just goes to show that docs often don't know what they are on about.

Oh, and don't stress about lack of symptoms. I've had very mild symptoms throughout this pregnancy and all is well.

Thanks everyone. Today is Saturday and I made the decision (with the support of DH) not to go and have the second blood test. I just figured that the energy I would spend chasing numbers to determine if my pregnancy was viable would be better spent in making our little bubby grow big and strong.

All of your posts have shown me that each woman is different and I dont want to compare myself to a range of numbers that the Obstetrician is going to say is normal or not.

So bring on a healthy, enjoyable pregnancy for all of us!!!

    Thanks again.
