    Bed times?

Just a curious question here. I have an almost 9 yr old. he goes to bed around 7 - 8pm most nights depending on his behaviour ect throughout the day,

Weekends I still don't really allow much later then 8pm. Reason for this is that Ds needs to get a good 10-12 hours sleep or he is tired and emotional the following day

Anyways to explain the reason for the thread.. On Friday night Ds had a late night due to coming in and out of the bedroom. 9:30 he finally fell asleep. He was going to a friends house the following night. I almost said no but they were going somewhere as well so I said he could go but didn't want it to be a late night. I was promised he would be home and in bed by 8 or 9 pm. I was happy with that. I found out (mother apoligised profusly) he didn't get home till 1am . I am a little annoyed but thankfully Ds slept 14 hours last night and has been pretty brilliant today but I wonder if I am a little harsh with bedtimes?

What time do or did your children of this age go to bed??

Where did they go until 1am...and at that age??

My kids are not that age..but my sisters kids are (aged 6, 9 and 12) and they all go to bed at 730pm...get out of bed 7am.

IMO he is still way too young to decide what time he goes to bed, weekend or not. You sound like you know what you're doing Nic, keep it up! You know your son, and what he needs better than anyone

In my house there was a strict 8pm bedtime rule for weekdays and a 10pm bedtime rule for weekends. No matter your age. Over the weekends we would watch a movie or play games after dinner, so staying up late were for Family-time only. I still had a bedtime in grade 12 No later than 10:30 for week days. There were the odd here and there, weddings, parents bbq at friends house ect, but for the most, we all knew our bedtime and sticked to it.
Did not make me a bad person for having them.
But I do remember being VERY upset in summer when the sun sets after 8pm!!!!!!

I feel better now for having set bed times. i think because we send Ds1 to bed at the same time as his younger brothers that it was an issue for some people. but yes we know our son the best and know what he needs..

I had a set bed time for years also and it never did me any harm.
