    Beef Jerky

This is VERY strange but after discussing DD's eating (or non-eating) habits today she suggested I give her beef jerky!! She said it's a good texture and has loads of vitamins and iron. Is she crazy or very smart?? I would have thought it would be very salty.

Added bonus though - if she can have it and likes it then my girlfriend ( a diff one) will tell me her baby's names (due in Aug)!

Uh no, I wouldn't be giving bubs beef jerky. It has far too much salt for the poor little thing!!!! I'd be concerned for the kidneys!!!!!

    btw - Lulu - why???

Coming to America..is that the one?

Umm yeah, lots of salt, it probably does have iron in it. Jeez I am useless tonight.

LOL Lulu, honestly the salt in the jerky wouldn't be worth the iron in it. Sultanas have a higher iron content without the salt which would be very hard on young kidneys. If you were to dry & preserve the jerky yourself, than sure as long as you didn't salt cure it

*shudders at the thought of preserving JERKY*

Have you tried her on sultanas then? Sometimes they get a little kick out of the little boxes they come in....

I just realised she's only 8 months old? I really wouldn't worry until she's near 12 months or old as to how much food she is eating, or even iron content. I would just add a tiny bit of rice cereal to fruit or vege puree for now & she should be getting enough.

Sure, sultanas should be okay, but some of them have a preserving agent which some kids can react too.

Jovie only really got into solids around 8 months, so you don't need to push things too far
