    Question re Melbourne sperm analysis

    Hi ladies,

First of all, thanks for taking the time to read this, and second, wishing you all many baby blessings and sending lots of baby dust your way....

My SIL has been TTC for approx 18months now and nothing. Her NP has recommended that her DH undergo a sperm analysis. Can anyone recommend where in Melbourne they might go? SHe has an appt with her obgyn later this month and would like the results back before her appt. Any advice??

    TIA

    Lisa

in all honesty, i'd pop into the GP and mention the LTTTC - get them to do an SA - if you go to obgyn, they probably won't be able to do anything related to the DP - so GP is your best option. ob/gyn or gp can refer to a fertility specialist if need be

Good luck to you with your ttc journey,

Hey Lisa - I just wanted to mention that it might be a good idea to get the actual analysis done by an IVF/Fertility clinic. Sometimes the 'average pathology place' tests aren't all that accurate.

We had some dodgy results for DH's first analysis which was just done at the local pathology place through my Ob/gyn at the time (he actually did the referal for DH). With all of my problems too, we were pretty devastated by his mediocre results. When we finally got to our FS, he re-ordered the tests just to be thorough and DH's results were actually off the charts! When the FS saw them he told us "it really doesn't get any better than this" so a very, very big difference.

When we looked back over the first results, we weren't told the correct information about abstinence, and they left the sample waaaay too long before testing it - these sorts of things can make all the difference.

I've heard of lots of similar stories so while it is more expensive, I'd definitely get it done through a fertility clinic, it's just not worth the extra heartache.

    Hi Lisa,

My FS and IVF Clinic use the Andrology Department at Royal Women's Hospital. Apparently they are more accurate. My DH had an SA done over a year ago through our Gyno (prior to us going to FS) and it came back completely normal.

We then had one done through the Women's hospital and there were problems with count and shape. I wish we had known this before, as we spent about 12 months doing ovulation induction, when we probably should have been straight on IVF/ICSI due to our combined problems.

Best of luck to your SIL.

Janie, I'm sorry your experience didn't end up like ours but which ever way it goes, this is too important in the TTC game to get it wrong.
