Question Conception of Boys and Girls - the practical not the theory

I am not sure if there have been other posts like this one, I pose this question to all those women out there who are currently pregnant and to those that have children already.

    When you concieved -

1 - where were you in your cycle?
2 - what sex child did you have?

Even though there seems to be better times for conception of a boy or a girl I was wondering how the true this actually was. So if you know when you ovulated and when you dtd (if you want to share that is) what the sex of your baby is - just to see if the theory works out or if it really doesn't matter bub will be what it will be.

Sorry I cannot explain my question any easier? I guess its a timing thing that I am wondering about, I know the theory 24-48 hours to O the more chances of a boy etc BUT what about in practise??

Thanks looking forward to your replies.

    Hi Nae,

I can't remember what days it was in my cycle, but we BD'd the day before I O'd, and the day I did O. We had a son!

We BD'd only once in the month we conceived and it was on the day I O'd. We got a daughter. I've read so much about gender swaying but I think there is still only a 50/50 chance.

With my boys we BD every day throughout my cycle, sometimes more then once

With this pregnancy, we BD 2 days before O, we didn`t continue BDing as I had a bad stomach bug with a high temp, I thought we didn`t have a chance, goes to show I was wrong, we`ll be finding out at 20 weeks what colour we`re having.

With DD1 my cycles were 30days. We weren't ttc and we dtd 4 days before O. I Oed on cd 16. Then with DD2 my cycles were 33 days long, we dtd 5 days before O and I Oed on cd 20. This time my cyles were around 34 days long, we dtd on O day which was cd21. Not sure what we are having yet..but I am sure it is a baby.

Our first was a pleasant surprise, so can't help you with that one (and he was a boy). When we were TTC our next one we DTD every second day from CD14 till the end of the appearance of EWCM (I didn't really have much of an idea about my cycle at that point apart from it being 36days long, just knew that we should probably do it lots LOL) and we got pg first cycle and she was a girl. We did the same thing when TTC our 3rd and got another girl first cycle. On both of those times we weren't trying to gender sway at all. I have since realised however in the months before TTCing #4 when I paid close attention to my cycle that I don't O until the EWCM is gone and I get O pain about 2 days after it's gone. So when TTC #4, we didn't DTD till the EWCM was gone and as soon as I started getting O pain we DTD. We did it two nights in a row and we got a boy. We knew there wasn't any certain way of gender sawying but we thought we'd give it a shot and if it turned out in our favour great (as it did) but if it didn't then no drama. That's just how it worked out for us though.

Problem is there is more to timing than just timing of BD and O. If you read some of the swaying info (including Shettles) they will tell you that if you want to conceive a boy the Man must not abstain for no more than four days before your 'attempt'... at which point Y sperm begin to die. However there is also some stats saying that abstaining for more than four weeks (I think, don't hold me too it) that more boys are conceived.

Another thing to think about is that LOTS of boys (can't remember the %, but in comparison to girls on a full moon it is a VERY high % rate) are conceived on a full moon

There is more info on this but I can't remember it off the top of my head.

    ETA:
    DD#1 no idea
DD#2 no idea (LOL... however I had just come off the pill and aparently the pill make the womans internal environment more acidic )
    DD#3 3 days before O
    DD#4 DTD day of O

we dtd one time in the month... two days before i Oed. and we got a boy. exactly what we wanted. but i did a lot more than just timing to try and make it happen.

some have said they got a girl when they dtd on the day they o. Which may seem a contradiction to the 48 hrs rule but....there is also the theory that if you dtd 12 hrs after the release of the egg you are more likely for a girl as environment changes dramatically as soon as you o. So those who got girls on O day probably had sperm reaching egg AFTER release of egg... not sperm waiting for egg to arrive.....

really hope that makes some kind of sense ... i am so jumbled up today!

Hmmm interesting Thanks so much to all who have replied so far, keep the replies coming the more info the better

Tanya - I have read all the gender swaying stuff its pretty interesting.

I am just curious about how it works in real life whether timing DOES in fact make a difference so all the responses have been very very interesting

On the cycle we conceived, I o'd on day 18. Just going by my chart, we DTD 3 days before that and one day after that. We have a little girl!

With the first 2 I had no idea what I was doing with regards to timing etc but #3 we tried specifiaclly for a boy and DTD when EWCM was present and used a couple of other things reccommended in the book How to chose the sex of your baby. I didn't know anything about charting even then so it was a bit hit and miss really!

    hi

all of mine have followed the rule, after O then a boy and before 0 a girl.
The twins obviously been a boy and a girl, didn't follow the rule.
My last 2 daughters were day 10/11 of a 28 day cycle, this pregnancy was day 9 of a 28 day cycle but don't know what bubs is until Feb........

I'm interested in this issue too- as to how much faith I can actually put in these theories!!
Anyway, with my one and only (boy), we DTD on day 15 of my cycle (my previous cycle was 31 days), when EWCM had only just appeared. I still had lots of EWCM 2 days later (day 17). Temperature peaked on the morning of Day 19, so I figure that I ovulated day 18.....
I felt very strongly I was having a boy from day dot.
Perhaps if we had DTD a couple of days earlier, it may have been a girl- who knows? We will test the theory next time around!!
I have also been looking into lunar conception of late and how the moon affects the cycles, fertility and gender at conception. Once again- the theories are theories even if they do work- but I'm still willing to test them out!!

I've been charting my cycle forever and I'm pretty confident about when I O.

DD wasn't planned, but I was charting when we conceived her (through being a bit *ahem* lax..about the rules!) The month she was conceived we BD'd just at the end of my period on CD 6, which would normally have been safe for us....but that cycle I ovulated unusually early on CD10 and we got DD .

DS was planned and we wanted to time it for a boy. I ovulated on CD17 (which is normal for me) and we BD'd that day only - not before, and not after - and got our boy.

Gender swaying is just that - it "tips" the odds in your favour, but like anything there are no guarantees.
