I swear by Nancy Gance (sold in Myer). The tummy flattening/thigh shaper ones are about $60 but well worth it. I wear them most of the time to flatten out a fat roll I can't seem to shift!
Another brand which is fantastic is Triumph which you can also buy at Myer. The tummy flattening/thigh shaper ones are about $40. These ones are particularly good for hiding the "backfat" you get from some other shapers.
They do work!!! They don't necessarily make you "thinner" but you do appear to be because everything is smooth.
They are a MASSIVE romance killer though.
ETA: Avoid them when it's really hot. I wore mine on New Years Eve in Melbourne and if anyone remembers it was like 40 degrees come midnight. I felt like I was going to DIE because I was so hot and sweaty from them!! Half way through the night I HAD to get them off and I had to ditch them in the bin because they wouldn't fit in my clutch bag!!
