    Hair help! Taming the frizz..

I hate my hair. Have always hated it (except when it's wet, or on the rare occasion when I was a teenager and my hairdresser would straighten it for me after a cut!). It is thick and frizzy, and nothing I have ever really tried makes a difference.

I just spent the last hour in the bathroom trying to straighten it (what was I thinking?!) and it doesn't look any different, just feels odd from the product I put in it to try and help. Now I remember why it was at least 2 1/2 years ago that I last attempted any form of 'styling'!
It is fairly dry too, which doesn't help the frizz but I've tried leave in treatments, moisturizing treatments etc and nothing works. I cant wear it out or even in a pony tail because it's just so frizzy and I hate big hair! Any suggestions?

Give your hair a coconut oil treatment once a week? When I straighten my hair, I don't use any of those products, I find they either make it worse or make my hair super oily. Have you thought about maybe getting a keratin smoothing treatment? Your hair type is a good candidate I believe.

    I feel your pain hun.
I have really dry, frizzy hair too. I found it is more manageable when it's short, it curls more than frizzes. Have you tried cutting it shorter?
Because its lighter it springs up better.
After a shower, I towel dry it, then brush it and try not to touch it until its dry. If you think it cant get worse you could give it a go?

How did you go with the shampoo bar I sent you ages ago? Did you like it? It's OK if you didn't, but I can get you more if you want.

Potion 9. Get it. Get it now!

Seriously, the best and only product I use in my hair and works like a dream. It is exxy, but lasts for aaaages.

Yeah I used the shampoo bar but didn't really notice much of a difference..maybe I'm just lazy and don't wash my hair often enough though?!

I had a look into keratin treatments, but they are ridiculously expensive here..like $200 and it lasted 3 months.. I just can't justify that, no matter how many times DF tells me to do whatever it takes!
Will check out Potion 9 LS! Where do you get it from?

When I was in around yr 6 it was quite short, and it was almost Afro.. I HATE photos of myself from then! The longer it is the 'straighter' it gets, when it was short it was just a mass of tight curls, but because it's frizzy at the same
Time it's just a mess. I don't mind the curls/gentle waves, but teamed with frizz and it goes ******. No way.

Sounds odd but Styling You chick( on FB and has a blog) raves about steam straightening! Called steam pod and some salons do it and soon you can do it from home as well!

You can get steam straighteners for home use - I got mine about 12 years ago. It is a Vidal Sassoon, can't see why you wouldn't still be able to get them.

I got the Potion 9 from my hairdresser, Synergy at The Block Arcade in the city, I presume you can buy it from good salons. You use the tiniest amount and use it after your done straightening it and it makes every thing smooth and frizz free without any weight or gross crunchy or tacky feeling. You wouldn't know it was in there, save how awesome your hair will look.

Bummer. Nice of your DP to say that though! I'd be doing it, that's like what, $66 a month? Exxy, but it would give you the relaxed, frizz free look you're after. I would get it done if my hair weren't so curly and I wasn't preggo, but I can understand the hesitation.

    LS, what's Potion 9? Interested.

Potion 9, is it a sebastian prodcut? rings a bell. I found pps straight gel product really good. Put in wet hair and blow dry for nice frizz free straight hair. The smaller the "sections" of hair spy are drying or straightning the better the result. And a light coat of hairspray after.

Gah can totally relate but can't help much sorry! mine isn't even properly curly like it used to be (since DS) & is really fine and brittle. I still have wispy bits growing back from getting my hair styled for our wedding I avoid straighters and hair dryers as much as possible, use shampoo with coconut oil in it, and mainly wear it in a bun (its lower back length) with a zillion bobby pins or a headband. I have salon stuff to put in it before I straighten or dry it that is meant to be a heat shield & antifrizz or else it feels like straw...

sent from my watzamajig so may not make sense....

Pumpkin Zulu, what do you mean by "coconut oil treatment once a week".

are you talking using coconut oil that you might have for cooking, or a specific hair product?

I don't have afro hair, but in the last few years, my hair has gone all dry, woolly and sticks out, a little bit afro looking (after 40 years of having manageable, shiny, hair that swung and behaved. Only needed wash and air dry and it BEHAVED).

Can't get my head around how i can get up, wash my hair and straighten it AND get bilby to school on time. When i straighten my hair, it only lasts a few hours. i hate feeling like i am chained to the hair straightener, and most of the time, i do not have time to do it. Size of our place and lack of mirrors, means it is a major deal for me to even use the straightener (and see my self in a mirror at the same time).

    I use organic moroccan oil.
    I also use aveda shampoo/conditioner.

My hair is shoulder length and has a natural curl to it which does go frizzy. I also have my hair cut ever 5 weeks and a treatment every 2nd or 3rd cut. I now have to factor in colouring, which is every 8-10 weeks.
