I've just started using the Rexona Clinical Protection... I'm about at my wits' end. So far, though, it appears to be working, if this keeps up it'll officially be the answer to my prayers!! I sweat like a bloke, even in the middle of winter (and I live in Central Queensland so it's around 30C for 48 weeks of the year!). It's hideous. Not to mention really unladylike! Other 'strong' antiperspirants work for a couple of hours, if that, then I just big wet patches under my arms as well as the stench of stale fragrance mixed with sweat. Ick.
I know it's probably full of chemicals and what not, but no way on Earth am I able to get away with crystal/natural deodorants - if this keeps working I'll keep forking out the $13 a pop for it, it's well worth it to finally be dry!
I use QV Naked anit-perspirant deo spray from the chemist and have found it to be great, doesnt irritate my skin at all, is fragrance free. You can get an aluminium free one too. I am not a sweater though so not sure how you would go with it.
I'm glad to know there's other people in the same boat. I am very sweaty (even when it's not hot) and it's the bane of my life. It's very embarrassing - not just the wet patches but the smelliness depending on what fabric I'm wearing. At the moment I'm using Dove spray-on because roll-ons just don't seem to work for me whatsoever. But these tips have been good - I'll try some others.
Fiona, it such an embarrassing thing, isn't it? I am also glad that I'm not the only one. It's so good to have places like this where we can ask questions like this without feeling embarrassed.
Sometimes, when I walk into a meeting I feel like saying, "yes, look, I know I smell today but I shower everyday, I use deodorant ... WHAT MORE d'you want me to do?"
We've found the Neways one to be really quite good, and its got none of the nasties in it as well. I think you need to find someone who deals Neways, but I'm sure there are links on their site.
I am a miessence fan. I won't use nasty ones and miessence is nasty free. I actually like Tahitian Dream Bath - I don't think it smells anything like Salami!!! If it does I smell like it all the time!!!! I use both of their scents the other is ancient spice. I don'tsmell and I live in Qld where it does get hot. HTH
Another Mitchum fan here. I've been using it since I was pregnant with DS (12 yrs) after a friend recommended it to me. It's the only deodorant I've found that 1: acutally works all day and 2: I'm not allergic to! The Avon 24hr one is also good.
Another vote for Mitchum. I had to start wearing deodorant when I was only 6 or 7 years old because I was getting BO even then...I had chronically sweaty armpits.
Tried 'em all but I still got the wet patches under my arms and was too chicken to lift my arms up during summer for years. I tried all the Rexonas, there was brand called Degree which was reasonable but got discontinued. Mum even bought me men's deodorant because she thought it might be stronger but I didn't like smelling like a bloke!
When I went out to work I would sometimes have to sneak into the ladies room and dry my armpits under the hand-dryer.
Eventually tried Mitchum roll-on...I had only ever used sprays, I hated the wet feeling of roll-ons but I was desperate. I have not used anything else for 5 or 6 years now. My armpits are always dry. Finally!
The other thing that helps me is making sure clothes aren't too tight under my armpits - even with the Mitchum I will get some dampness then (but nothing embarrassing like I used to get). My school uniform was always too tight under my arms (it was homemade, Mum always sewed them herself) which I think is a lot of the reason I had such a chronic problem with sweating...it wasn't just the lack of an effective anti-perspirant.
