Hair straighteners are the BANE of my life!!!! Arrrrgggghhhhh!!!!! My DH's blood pressure also rises at the mere mention of them too. Only because we have a 13yo DD. Who uses hers at any given opportunity, ie SEVERAL times a day... every day. And she is forever leaving the bloody thing ON! And within reach of my toddler!!!! And she is ruining her beautiful hair!!! We have tried confiscating the bloody thing but her friends just end up giving their spare ones to her... and/or doing it for her at school!!!! She has a collection of about 3 or 4 ATM. She doesn't seem to express any preferences though... she has a Coles $30 one and uses that one just as much as the others. No way KNOWN would I be spending $300 on one for her. Call me a dragon mummy but I am at my WITS END!!! For a start she would take it to school... probably get it stolen... leave it on all the time and burn herself even more badly than she currently is.

Sorry to hi-jack your thread Lulu... but if anyone has any advice about what i can do about Hair Straightener abuse then please share!!! And if you think i am over reacting then may you too have to deal with a 13yo Hair straightener addict in your home!!! :P

Buy her the $300 GHD Bath - she will only need to straighten it every 2-3 days instead of everyday!

Amy... Hmmm.... maybe after we pay the $8,000 we owe her school in fees and the $200 she racked up in calling mobile phones on our phone bill, and the $260 we apparently have to spend on the school scientific calculator next year, and the $500 in text books.... need I go ON! LOL I won't slap you... just my own forehead!!!

Bar your home phone! If anyone wants to call mobiles here, they use their own! Chopped my bill down by about $150 per quarter.

Her hair IS gonna fall out Bath, far out! Does she use it in the bathroom? My DD uses hers in her bedroom and I'm putting a hook on the wall for this one.

I bought Rainys GHD!!! Muchly happy with that, get good product for good price WOO HOO!

Lulu: She uses it in the bathroom, the ensuite, her bedroom, at school, at friends places.... i swear she would use it in the loungeroom while watching the bloody TV or in the office while on the internet if given half the chance... infact she probably DOES! (When she is up at 3am sneaking private internet time). She does it with her MP3 player in her ears... with every lamp and light turned on within a 20 meter radius... while tumble drying her favourite pair of undies (by themselves!!!)... I SWEAR she has been programmed by aliens to use as much electricity as physically possible at all times!!! I thought the younger generations were worried about CLIMATE CHANGE! She doesn't care if her hair falls out! I tell her it's going to... she says "meh".

    hi girls,

i bought my first straightner (if you dont count the flat plates that go on my 1986 crimper lol) at the weekend and got a WAHL, like Boomba.

It was priced at $90 but Good Guys gave it to me for $75. Only used it once and don't have much experience with straightners but it was good.. and it's pinnk with a pink bag! yay.

i also didn't want to spend a fortune, particularly as this is my first straightner. but i won't use it every day either.

    Hope this helps.

    Start calling her Baldy

Don't even get me started about the fricken electricity! Yep we do the ONE item in the dryer, then moved onto drying smalls on the heater in her room..all day. No matter its a sunny day and plenty of room on the washing line 2 feet from the back door. She hasn't been too bad with leaving straightener on....but she leaves the electric blanket on to make up for it...and the lamp.
Then there are the SHOWERS.... eco warriors my bum!

Luckily the leccy blanket stopped working, and she got a new bed that she can't hang her lamp on. Now when she has a shower I time it to 3 mins, then turn the dishwasher on

PML I do the dishwasher thing too Lulu!!! Great minds hey!? And here I was thinking I was a real cow and that a "good mother" wouldn't have to resort to that.... teen daughters hey? She leaves 'her" column heater on all day as well...naturally, it's the biggest electricity chewer of all!!!
I can't bring myself to even visit the appropriate BB teen forum anymore... the thought of even venting about her makes my heart rate max out... Aaaaah, it's after 6pm, I can have my Mothers' Helper (glass of Chardonnay) been watching the clock ever since my last post!

ETA: Ok so i told her that "Some women on BB said they used their hair straighteners too much and now have bald patches". (You can't be too direct with 13yos) Her response was : "Yeah, but they are, like, way older than me".

Yep... that's 13yo logic for you...
