There is a growing movement of educating people on what women look like. There is the 101 Vagina book. The Large Labia project (ladies google at own risk and education). It is so we know that not only our bodies, but our genitals come in all shapes, sizes, colours and hairiness.

Lack of knowing about the sheer diversity of what is normal, is linked to the increase in women seeking and having labiaplasty.

Just wanted to point out I don't think Demi's bush is abnormal, just a different normal to what is my normal! And impressive!

This is interesting because it is only really since the rise of the popularity of brazillians (I think anyway) that differences in vulvas, labias, etc have become more obvious. Until only not that many years ago really, that I picked up my brother's 'home girls' or some such magazine in his loo did I come to learn of how different women can and do look. I naively up till that time thought everyone looked like me! (And my mum who was my other example but she never was hairless either) - my only other ever close up experiences of naked females was in late highschool in the change rooms - given this was the early 90's everyone was bushy then too. And yeah, I had bush envy of one girl who always paraded her lovely bush infront of us all!
I think it's very sad that anyone feel the need to remove or alter parts of themselves to fit some view of 'normal'.

The Large Labia Project was... confronting?! Goodness me... Aaaahhh.... Honestly, I don't think porn shows that much detail. Interesting though, and I can see why women with large labia minora would be concerned that they are 'abnormal' as women in porn seem to all have small labia minora. I think I read a few years ago that Playboy/Penthouse etc. can't show any labia minora or they lose their rating and become X or something? It would be pretty hard to hide your labia minora if they protrude from the labia majora!! The net makes it much easier for every woman to see that her vagina is just a variation of 'normal' and I reckon that's a good thing!

ETA I was more surprised that Demi ever posed for photos with her legs spread and vagina bared than I was at her generous bush!

Help me convince dh this is normal....

Nickle, many women in open have had their labias trimmed, if they don't already have the 'look'. I've watched some great docos over the years on the subject of vulva acceptance, I'm trying to remember names...one was French and called The Wa.nkers lol

I think fufus, like belly buttons can be "inny" or "outy".
I wonder if those mags like playboy have increased "inny" awareness. It seems that labia surgery is for those who don't like their "outy" and for some there is a fair amount of pressure to have the right kind of fufu.
I personally, find this trivial and sad.
If your biggest problem is how your fufu looks- life must be good. ??

I haaate hair down there! I have always felt so ashamed and grossed out by it even though I know it is completely normal. I just personally hate it!

I had a few brazilians finally and then got my first round of lazer which was awesome but then fell preg :/ soon as this baby is out I am going back to lazer cause I want it all gone forever!

Until then I am trimming and making sure I am tidy.

I have always felt so ashamed
I wonder what caused you to feel ashamed of it? It's not like it's something you can control.

"We got bush, we got bush" - booger. I think there is also a reference to 'hair pie' in Revenge of the nerds!! Classic!

Oh my 'The large labia project'. it's very in your face. I imagine the only trouble with large labia would be the pulling and stretching during sex. I read a bit of one girls comments and she said she always got a 'camel toe' due to her 'meaty' majora. And is it really necessary to open it all up for the camera!?

That's what I was I was talking about in my earlier posts. It horrifies me to think that women are surgically altering their labia because they see themselves as abnormal due to photoshopped porn. And apparently it's photoshopped due to censorship. Awesome.

Is that photo of Demi real?
at what some of you would be thinking if you saw mine untamed! Demi's is nothing! LOL Then again, I have always had very dark, very coarse hair, and it isn't a nice and neat little triangle!

I remember some years ago when I was about 14, there was a magazine having a go at Alanis Morrissette because they snapped a pic of her getting out of a pool, and she hadn't done her bikini line. That stayed with me, and is prime example I think of how the media can influence young women - I honestly don't think porn is the biggest contributor to this totally unrealistic body image. The media itself is far more affecting I think.

Well, i was just reading a bit on a mens forum that came up when i googled 'large labia project' and they were all talking about it. Aside from cracking nonsense unrelated jokes one man posted "Punters prefer a tidy one over a great big dirty one" I think it's more the reference to big/hairy=dirty. I think thats why I prefer no hair. I know hairy doesn't necessarily mean dirty, but I can't help but link the two KWIM.

It strikes me as funny that some men seem to have a vocal opinion on what a vagina should look like, or what is 'generically' attractive to them on women they dont' even know. In my experience, if they know they're going to get laid, they usually couldn't give two hoots what it looks like. Sure, some may have preferences, but I am pretty sure they won't stop wanting to have sex with you even if you had a big labia or an untamed bush. I think women are far more self conscious about it then men will ever be. Coz seriously would ANY of those men who posted kick Demi out of bed for her untamed bush?
