saram- i havent had a professional one but i thought i would share my home waxing experience....
it didnt go too well, i put the wax on and then couldnt get the guts up to pull it off, of course dp was there chasing me around the house trying to rip it off as well
absolute disaster as then i read the instructions while in the bath trying to soak it off, i needed baby oil to remove it! of course, pre baby days, i didnt have any in the house! so i ended up using and destroying all my shavers and dps, getting the freaking stuff off!!

just a bit of advice, if you do go through with it, at home or otherwise, dont do it a week either side of AF, your pain threshold is lower during those times.
